     Jan. 3, 1901 -- A good 20 cent coffee for 14 cents, per pound, at Smith Bros.

     Dr. Johnson has moved his office to his residence, east of the courthouse.

     Ed King attended a meeting of the Elks, in Topeka.

     The Kansas Soldiers in the Philippine Islands did not get to vote. The tickets reached there in time but were not distributed.

     Matt McDonald attended the meeting of the Probate Judges at Topeka.

     The Christmas tree at the Buck Creek school house, caught fire and damaged many of the presents before it could be extinguished.

     Mr. Thos. L. Parks of Cedar Point and Laura Bichet, of Florence were married.

     M. D. Umbarger of Hymer, has just finished his waterworks.

     James V. Evans, died at the residence of his son, D. C. Evans, on South Fork, the result of exposure to the severe cold. The old gentleman was almost 91 years old.

     A company has been organized to prospect for gas, oil, coal and mineral, in the vicinity of Cottonwood Falls and Strong City.

     Jan. 10, 1901 -- Wonsevu Camp, M.W.A. installed their newly elected officers, at their hall.

     There was a social hop at Joe Crawford's, Cedar Township.

     The mumps has a large number of victims in Cedar Township.

     Mrs Jane Shaft who is very feeble was moved this week to the home of her daughter, Mrs Jessie Cope.

     E. S. Green has sold his hotel to S. Miller. Mr. Green has bought the Santy house and will move there.

     Mrs Clymer, who has been making her home with her daughter, Mrs John Horner, died of pneumonia. She leaves two sons and two daughters.

     C. A. Kalb has purchased Dell Rose's residence.

     Born to Mr. & Mrs J. H. Lowman of Morgan, a daughter. Mr. & Mrs John Lochmiller, this city, a son.

     Geo. Stephenson, J. C. Dwelle, & W. A. Waddell are running a bowling alley next door to Gorvin's.

     An old style ball, consisting of cotillions, polkas, and waltzes, will be given in Music Hall.

     The annual meeting the the stockholders of the Chase Co. National Bank was held and the old officers & directors were re-elected.
