     Jan 3 1934 - The Santa Fe Railway Co. is Chase County’s heaviest taxpayer.

     Jan 10 - The Strong City Rural High School basketball team was winners over the Chase County Community High School in a one sided game. The score being 29 to 11.

     Sudden death of Rufus Lee Ice, formerly of Chase County.

     Wallace Evans bought the Strong City Hardware Store and took possession. The store was formerly owned by M. A. Houghton and B. M. Garth. Wallace Evans is the son of Mrs Harry Hays of Bazaar. He has had much experience in the Blackburn Hardware at Bazaar.

     Jan 17 - Fire threatens the old mil’ at the dam in the north part of this city.

     Jan 24 - Fire destroys the small house of Frank Cooper on Rock creek. Also the farm house on the August Bahr farm on Prairie Hill.

     Jan 31 - The body of Mrs Wm. E. Gregory has been found in the Cottonwood river northwest of this city on the G. B. Howard land.

     Mrs N. M. Patton, of Clements has died at her home.

     Feb 7 - Miss Vivian M. Herr, of this city and Mr Vaden L Heathman, of Mat- field Green are married.

     Feb 28 - The Wm. Hyle Grocery Store at Saffordville was destroyed by fire.

     W. A. Waddell died at his home in this city. He had been an invalid for years.

     Mar 7 - Arthur M. Ice, one of Cedar Points oldest and best known residents has died.

     Mar 21 - A fire of unknown origin destroyed the big elevator and granary on the Lester Urschel ranch in Strong City. It was built many years ago by the Lantrys.

     Glen & Gilbert Mott have purchased the lot on east Union Street and will build a filling station.

     Mar 28 - P. J. Norton dies in Wichita. He was 81 years old at death. He came to Chase county in 1859 with his mother and brothers.

     James Way is the new manager of the Elmdale Farmers Store.

     Ralph Klamm buys the Wadsworth farm on Spring creek for a dairy.

     Miss Julia Giger of Elmdale and Mr. Haviland Whitney, of Hymer are married. The young couple are living at the Whitney ranch.

     Apr 4 - Old time "Gully washer" breaks a long drouth.

     Both of Matfield Green schools are closed as a result of a widespread epidemic of measles.

     Apr 11 - Mrs Wm. Rettiger, who for many years lived in Strong City has died.

     Also the death of Mrs Susan Sauble on the Sauble farm on Cedar creek.

     Chas. Lancaster, manager of the Uptown Theatre in Strong City, has leased the Odeon Theatre in this city.

     Apr 25 - A number of the eight months schools of the county closed last week and another will close this week.
