     Jan. 10, 1901 -- Dave Johnson, who was elected a Justice of the Peace in Matfield Township, failed to qualify with the 20 days required by law, and has lost his job and Chas. Golden hold over.

     J. J. Kennison, died at his home in Elmdale. He was a member of Co. G., 8th Ks. having enlisted in 1861.

     Results of the U. S. Census, Chase County's population is 8,246, an increase of 13 in ten years.

     Our creamery at Matfield started the New Year in qood shape by churninq a qood quantity as well as quality of butter. The Company has been qranted their charter and have a capital stock of $10,000.

     Our Corner grocery store of A. N. Coffelt of Matfield is doing a flourishing business.

     Lew E. Maule, of Stronq City and Cora C. Howard of the Falls, were married by Rev. Hilton.

     Jan. 17, 1901 -- A. T. Crocker is having a bunch of cattle feed on the Brandley ranch. Oscar Geer does the feeding.

     Bert & Charley Shaft have rented the D. P. Shaft farm, and moved there, their mother, Mrs Rhoda Shaft, will keep house for them.

     Mrs James Wheeler has the finest flock of partridge cochins we have ever seen.

     T.G. Vinson, of Morgan has purchased Jon Evans livery stable.

     The large increase of rabbits, squirrels, prairie chickens and quail the past year in the county is being commented upon.

     Helen Proeger has been appointed deputy county superintendent and will have charge of the office until Mr. Austin completes his school in Strong City.

     Young Will Sullivan, of Elmdale, is down with smallpox. The house is quarantined.

     W. J. Daugherty, whose term of office as county commissioner ended last Monday noon, was one of the most conscientious officals that ever served this county.

     Paul Cartter who is a member of Battery E. 3d Artillery is now stationed in Manila.

     W. K. Myers was re-employed as superintendent of the poor farm for 1901, and the county clerk authorized to approve his bond.

     The Curant-Reveille was awarded the county advertising at full rates for the delinquent tax list and 50 per cent of legal rates for all other advertising.
