     1935


     May 5 1935 - W. Roy Mushrush, assistant cashier of the Exchange National Bank for a good many years, has been elected cashier to fill the vacancy made by the death of W. B. Penny.


     May 8 - Chase County baseball league gets underway with six teams.


     Miss Mabel Henry, and Leslie 0. Pierce, both of Elmdale were united in marriage at Saffordville.


     The Commissioners purchased a new International truck at a cost of $1,271.00.


     May 15 - Rain brings joy to Chase Co. farmers.


     5-22- Wm. Penny of Cottonwood Falls who passed away, was the City Clerk of Cottonwood Falls, who had held this office for nearly 20 years. Dudley Fisk was elected to take his place at a special meeting of the city council members.


     Mr. 0. W. Lewis, who was in his 95th year passed away. He was the last survivor of the Toledo G. A. R. post and was one of Chase County’s earliest settlers. He was engaged in farming and livestock in Toledo township.


     State Highway employees and others of the county force are breaking the log jam at the Cottonwood bridge.


     May 29 - Tornado strikes southwest Chase Co.


     Miss Jean Evans and Neil McCallum were married at Elmdale.


     Wm. Kieferle, of this city, has organized a band consisting of members from all over Chase Co.


     Jun 12 - Mr. & Mrs Edward Fillmore of Cottonwood Falls are the proud parents of a son, Edward Eugene.


     Rodney Symes and Marjorie Irene Clark were wed in Emporia.


     Chase County has 80 more farms this year than was the case in 1930. A total of 919 farms were listed.


     Jun 19 - Work on Chase County’s big lake and park, to be built southwest of this city, will get underway by Oct. 1st. The land was purchased from the Howard Estate.


     Mars Hill & Lookout Districts consolidate.


     Jun 26 - Miss Wanda Nelson of Saffordville and Tom J. Pyles of Elmdale were married in Newton.


     Jul 10 - Chase County farmers are ready to start battle on bindweed.


     Concrete paving project now half completed on 50 S.


     Jul 17 - Adrian Lawrence, of Bazaar and Miss Gertrude White, of Burwell, Nebraska were wed.


     Also Martha Wilson and Wayne Keller.


     Cottonwood Falls is completing a small vault in the city building to be used for the City’s records.


     Jul 24 - Lightening kills S. L. Pennington of Bazaar. Mr. Pennington was married to Mrs Pearl Yeager in 1927.


     Aug 7 - Mrs Mary J. McCallum dies suddenly at her home on Middle Creek.


     Mrs W. W. Austin & H. P. Austin are planning to build new homes on lots they recently purchased from W. E. Gregory.
