     1936

     Feb 19 1936 - City water being delivered to local residents in Cottonwood Falls by truck, due to being cut off by frozen pipes.

     Mar 4 - The first house built in the county was on the Houghton farm east of Elmdale and was built in 1855 by the late Wm. Harris who worked for Seth Hays will be moved to Swope Park, as a gift of Kittie Houghton.

     Mar 18 - Elmdale votes bonds for a public building. The project is under the WPA. The location will be on the north side of the main business street.

     Mar 25 - Sudden death of Thomas H. McCabe, of Bazaar. A life long resident of the Bazaar vicinity and a farmer.

     Apr 1 - The fifth anniversary of the plane crash that took Knute Rockne and seven other lives was March 31st.

     The Ladies benevolent Society of this city is collecting clothing for the needy.

     Apr 8 - The home of Ben Whetherholt, at Clements, was completely destroyed by fire.

     Henry Giese is the new president of the Cottonwood Falls Chamber of Commerce.

     Apr 15 - The Bazaar stockyards and unloading platform are being improved.

     Apr 22 - Maxine Pendergraft wins first place in typing at the state meet.

     Apr 29 - Ad - Peoples Cash Grocery & Market - Sugar, 10 pounds 49 cents; flour, 48 pound sack, $1.19; Rolled oats, 5 pound bag, 19 cents; bananas, 6 pounds, 25 cents.

     May 6 - Seven Wonsevu pupils have perfect attendance for the year at Bessie Spains school and are; Bus Buntley, Leon Waker, Beth Thompson, Norma Jean Spain, Rosalie McKittrick, Marjorie Spain and Edna Mae Jones.

     May 20 - The S. P. Fisher’s of Clements are holding a large public auction of all their property.

     Republicans fill their county ticket.

     Frances Ayers and Gilbert Pinkston, both of Cottonwood Falls were married some time ago.

     May 27 - Population of Chase County in 1936 is 6, 344.

     Jun 3 - The city now has a dumping ground where trash and cans may be dumped. It is located east of the vocational barn.

     Jun 10 - There is being erected now at Camp Wood, a large chapel memorial building.

     Sanitary toilet project goes over big here. There have been 214 installed in the county.

     Jun 17 - Miss Ethel Mae Fillmore became the bride of Thomas McCabe. They will live on the McCabe farm near Bazaar.

     Work on the “cut off” from Elmdale to Marion has started.

     Jun 24 - Leona Spence and Edward Burton, a well known couple of Chase County are wed.

     Jul 1 - Water shortage is becoming serious.

     A daughter was born to Mr. & Mrs Arthur Baker of Bazaar, named Clara Irene.
