     1936 - 1937


     Dec 16 1936 - Strong City’s water system improvement project is about 70% finished. An allotment of $15,975 was issued in the new style PWA program. The Federal Government advances 45% of the cost of the project.


     Dec 23 - Wm. Snedegar dies at Matfield Green.


     Cleo Marlene, the thirty day old baby of Mr. & Mrs Lee Blount, of Cedar Point has died.


     Dec 30 - Pneumonia fatal to Edward Thurston of Elmdale.


     Jan 6 1937 - Death takes James R. Stone, a life-long resident of the Toledo vicinity. Mr. Stone married Dora Moon in 1887 and they were the parents of six daughters and one son.


     Jan 13 - The new board of commissioners are: Victor Kirk, Geo. M. Miller and Wm. H. Ward.


     Feb 3 - Deaths; Charles A. Stoehr of Elmdale and Jessie C. Riggs of this city.


     Feb 10 - L. W. Byram, 80, died at his home near Clements. He had married Miss Margaret Crawford in 1880. They were the parents of a large family of children.


     Feb 17 - Chase County takes basketball double header from Strong City.


     Feb 24 - A son was born to Mr. & Mrs Albert Neinstedt up Stribby creek way.


     Mar 3 - George Martin, a resident of Bazaar, has taken his own life.


     Margaret Jane McCabe, daughter of the late Patrick and Abbie McCabe passed away.


     Mar 10 - Mr. & Mrs Elmo Yoakem of Homestead, are the parents of twin boys, one baby weighed eight pounds and the other seven and one-half. They have not been named.


     Mar l7 - The formal opening of the Hamm Electric Shop in this city has taken place.


     Mar 24 - Miss Ola Byram and Mr. Freddy Pracht, are united in marriage.


     Apr 7 - Frances Nell Crook Bevlin is kidnapped.


     Deaths; Carrie Breese Chandler, Orville Dick, Mrs W. C. Austin and Albert Scott.


     Apr 14 - County may have a budget balancing problem on its hands.


     Death of Arthur “Chappy” Lawrence a 81 year old resident of this place.


     Apr 28 - The Matfield Green underpass is nearing completion.


     Maya 5 - Mrs Julius Frey passes after a long illness.


     5-19- Carl Ballweg is the new Fair Secretary.


     May 26 - Victor and Opal Kirk celebrate their silver wedding anniversary.


     Jun 2 - Assessed valuations of personal property in Chase County this year will drop a quarter of a million, according to M. C. Jelf, of the County Clerk’s office.


     Mr. & Mrs Howard Short’s daughter, 14-month old Cleta Mae drowns in stock tank southeast of Saffordville.


     Jun 16 - Joe Crawford and his bride the former Miss Mildred Adele Whitlock, were married on Jan 5th of this year. The news of the wedding is just now becoming known to their many friends.


     Jun 23 - Chas. Lancaster, owner of the Uptown and Lyric Theatres in Strong City and Cottonwood Falls has just announced that he is improving the sound system in both theatres.
