     May 18 1938 - Miss Berthabelle Mercer, the youngest daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs Wm. Mercer, Sr. became the bride of Orville Peterson.

     May 28 - Miss Ruby Brandley and Mr. Robert B. Kirk, both of the Matfield vacinity are united in marriage.

     Jun 1 - Mrs C. N. Baldwin, 84, passes away at her home in Cottonwood Falls.

     Oscar Duehn, early day settler dies.

     Jun 15 - To have opening for the Rice Elevator at Elmdale.

     Jun 22 - Miss Cleopatra Ice daughter of Adam & Ann W. Ice of Clements has passed away.

     Jun 29 - Bluestem is the best it has been in years.

     Jul 13 - Twin Sons born to Mr. & Mrs John Bruce of Bazaar.

     Jul 20 - John Holcomb is opening a shoe repair shop in this city.

     Jul 27 - Miss Beth May of Elmdale & Ted Klenk of Marion are wed.

     Aug 10 - Fire destroys three Saffordville buildings.

     The death of Jerry Brown of Cottonwood Falls has occurred.

     Sep 7 - City to clamp down on traffic rules.

     Sep 14 - Mr. & Mrs W. P. Evans will celebrate their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary.

     The marriage of Miss Doris Titus and Mr. Elmore Stout has taken place at the horne of Dr. & Mrs A. E. Titus of this city.

     One new room in the courthouse basement has been added to the farm bureau rooms and other improvements are being made.

     Sep 21 - Mr. & Mrs John H. Longshore of Strong City, become the parents of twins. They are the fourth set of twins born to them. The new twins were named Paul & Pauline.

     Sep 28 - Race horses at the fair grounds already outnumber the stalls.

     Oct 5 - There were a total of 1,548 exhibits for the Chase County Fair.

     Oct 12 - Dudley Doolittle was made acting president of the College of Emporia.

     Oct 26 - Three slight earthquakes were felt on Stribby creek.

     Nov 9 - The large two-story farm house of Harry Pendergraft was completely destroyed by fire.

     Nov 23 - The Hymer postoffice is destroyed by fire.

     Work has started on the new Cottonwood Falls Armory and Municipal building. The site is on the east side of Broadway, north of the City Hall building. The building will be 106 feet long by 70 feet wide. The exterior will be of native stone with cast stone trim. (It was finished in 1939 at a cost of $21,763.)

     Dec 14 - Cappy Grokett is building a blacksmith shop in Cottonwood Falls.

     Glen Cunningham, the well known racer, has purchased the Geo. Topping farm on Cedar creek.

     Jan 1-1939 Larry Brock Mercer infant son of David & Hazel Mercer of Homestead has died at the age of two days.
