     Jun 14 1939 - F. W. Huth of this city was awarded the contract for the erection of a new school building at Rock Creek. It will cost around $3,900 to $4,900 for a one story frame with basement.


     The marriage of Miss Frances Opal Gaddie, of Bazaar, and Mr. Fred N. Godwin, of Manhattan was held.


     Wm. Pherigo will open an ice cream & refreshment shop in the south half of the Geo. Capwell building on the east side of Broadway.


     Jun 21 - Miss Vay Watchous, youngest daughter of Mr. & Mrs Wm. Watchous, of this city, and Earl Keener are wed.


     Jun 28 - Local young men killed at Neva highway crossing, Harold Stout, 32, of this place and Herman Lawrence, 27, of Strong City.


     Miss Elizabeth Childs of Elmdale becomes the bride of Mr. E. Carson Crawford, of Wichita.


     Jul 5 - Open house is to be held for Mrs Mollie Barr’s 90th birthday at the home of her son and his wife, Mr. & Mrs C. 0. Barr of Diamond Springs.


     Jul 19 - Scribner store in Saffordville was burned to the ground.


     Miss Arlene Pierce & Orville Fillmore, both of this city are married.


     Aug 23 - Will start construction of REA lines shortly.


     Mrs Mollie Barr, oldest resident of Diamond Springs has died at her son, Carl’s home.


     Sep 13 - C. A. Sayre who came to Chase County in 1864 has passed to his eternal rest at his home. Charley spent his entire life boasting Chase County.


     Sep 20 - Miss Margaret Kieferle & Mr John Busselle are married at the home of the bride’s parents.


     Sep 27 - Miss Lorene Potter & Mr Mason Blackmore both of this place are wed.


     Oct 11 - Mr. & Mrs Les Talkington are the parents of a baby girl named, Shirley Jean.


     Nov 1 - All schools of Chase County are inspected for fire hazards.


     Nov 8 - In order to comply with the new wage hour law, the five state banks & one national bank of Chase County will close at 3:00 P. M. instead of 4:00 PM.


     Nov 29 - The Martin Dry Goods Co., one of Cottonwood Falls and Chase County’s most important firms is starting a dissolution sale.


     Elmer E. Flickinger, Jr. and Maxine Obley, both of Saffordville are issued a marriage license.


     Edward Fillmore has purchased the produce market from Wm. Pherigo.


     Dec 13 - Miss Melizent Greene, of Strong City became the bride of Mr. Charles H. Davis of Elmdale.


     Dec 27 - Geneva Romigh Childs has passed away. In 1878 she married Edwin Childs.


     Jan 10 1940 - Pat Mushrush has purchased the J. B. Sanders residence in the west part of this city.


     Jan 17 - Pneumonia is fatal to P. C. Jeffrey of Elmdale.
