     1941


     Mar 5 1941 - The Chase County Leader celebrates its 70th. year. Started by W. A. Morgan, a young civil war veteran coming here from Ohio.


     Carl 13. Cowley has been a reporter for the Chase County Leader for more than 30 years.


     Mar 26 - Andrew Tarrant who was one of the best known farmers of the Matfield Green vicinity died at his Madison, Ks. home. Mr. Tarrant married Miss Laura Fent in 1919.


     Apr 2 - E. D. Wilson Jr., buys the Lyric & Uptown theatres.


     Apr 9 - Miss Marjorie Goad of this city and Mr. Geo. Bechelmayr of Camp Robinson are wed.


     Apr 16 - The foundation is completed for the new Strong City grade school building.


     School buses may be used for athletic events and music contests outside the districts.


     May 7 - Mrs Lizzie Heck who had lived in Chase County for sixty years has passed away.


     May 14 - The overpass over highway 13 north of Matfield Green is opened.


     Mr. Chad Patton has been employed to teach at Sharp’s creek for the next school term.


     May 21 - Nate Russell, a life long farmer and cattleman of Bazaar , was instantly killed by his horse while roping a cow. The saddle turned and the horse got jumpy stepping or kicking Mr Russell in the head while on the ground.


     Jun 11 - River falling after week of high water.


     Jun 18 - Clark Drinkwater dies following a long illness at his home in this city.


     Jun 25 - Two contractors to start work on the improvement of the Cottonwood city school are let.


     Jul 2 - Big rodeo the Fourth of July at the Mercer Bros. ranch south of Clements.


     Jul 9 - The marriage of Miss Paul Treimer, of Strong City and Mr. Charles Maybell of this city.


     A drive will be started for collecting scrap aluminum for the war effort.


     Jul 16 - Carroll F. Holmberg, of Strong City, has been appointed Captain of the Kansas State Guard stationed here. The company has 40 members.


     Jul 30 - John Goad of Cedar Point died quite suddenly, following a stroke.


     Hugh Campbell to fill vacancy at the Strong City State Bank.


     Claude Laloge, who has lived in this county all his life, has passed away. He was married to Miss Mary Patton, of Clements. To this union were born eight children.


     Aug 6 - Alberta Rill and Alvin Emch are wed in Emporia and Elizabeth Maxine Scribner and Karl Masoner.


     Aug 13 - Chase County has the largest delegation at the two - day judging school at Council Grove.
