     1941 - 1942


     Dec 31 1941 - First Lieut. Wallace Thurston of Elmdale and Miss Evelyn Reaves were married on Christmas Day at Fort Rodman, Mass.


     Jan 7 1942 - Mrs E. Roniger of Bazaar passes her 92nd. birthday.


     Jan 14 - Mr. & Mrs David Mercer moved into their new home recently, on the site on the Mercer home that burned a number of years ago.


     Jan 21 - The death of Mrs Mary Louise Schwilling occurred at the Schwilling home on Rock Creek. Her maiden name was Mary Louise Becker.


     Jan 28 - Mrs Sidney Symes died at her home on the Symes farm at Elk in northwestern Chase County.


     Feb 4 - Betty Lu Titus, youngest daughter of Dr. & Mrs A. E. Titus, of this city has died very unexpectly. She was to have been married to Dr. George Simpson on June 7th.


     Col. C. Crouch died at his home in Saffordville. He “cried” sales all over this part of the state and was a good auctioneer.


     Mrs Jonas Potter dies in Topeka.


     Feb 11 - T. R. Wells of Elmdale was appointed executor of the estate of the late Lizzy J. Haney of Elmdale.


     Miss Nina Belle Blackburn and Mr. Albert Burton, both of Bazaar are wed in the Methodist parsonage in this city.


     Feb 18 - Mr. & Mrs James McCabe, of Strong City celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary.


     Feb 25 - “Santa Fe” Spencer, as he is best known in oil circles, always does things in a big way. His Spencer Ranch southwest of Cottonwood Falls has become a show place.


     Mar 4 - Sugar bowls are off the restaurant tables.


     Mar 11 - City school rocked by sewer gas explosion.


     Deaths: Mr. W. P. Evans, Mrs Elizabeth Roniger, Jim Harder, Clyde W. McAtee & Lafe Bud Breese.


     Mar 18 - Gil Brough, of Bazaar has purchased the American Hotel in this City.


     Miss Neva Sayre, a missionary in China, is being held prisoner by the Japenese.


     Mar 25 - Some grass leased at $10.00 per head in the Flint Hills of Chase County.


     Floodlights installed on the courthouse flag.


     Apr 1 - The silver wedding anniversary of Mr. & Mrs Earl Pierce of Homestead is celebrated.


     Apr 8 - Mrs Albert Matti dies at her home east of this city. The Matti family came to this county in about 1886.


     Sam R. Cowley, Uncle of Carl B. Cowley, died. Mr. Cowley was a rural route mail carrier out of Cedar Point for a good many years.


     Apr 15 - Many fail to pass army physical tests. Of the 22 men selected 9 were accepted.


     Apr 22 - Private Hazen P. Bledsoe of Port Chicago, Calif., and Miss Beth Overstreet of Strong City are wed in Calif. where Private Bledsoe is stationed.


     Apr 49 - Register for sugar ration cards has got underway in Chase County.
