     Private Robert J. Fillmore, who is now on duty in North Africa has finally written his parents, Mr. & Mrs Wm. Fillmore of this city, after two months, with no word from him.


     Feb 10 - Uncle Sam has three new sailors who have joined: Joseph Lewis Goodell, Don J. Evans, and Richard Franklin Greene.


     Mar 10 - Board must reclassify all men over 38 years old. Shortage of meat and other commodities tightens.


     Mar 31 - Mrs Ruth Jeffrey is now the new postmaster of Bazaar. The post office is located in the F. M. Gaddie building.


     Miss Helen Childs of Elmdale weds Flight Officer, Marvin L. Dull. Helen is the youngest daughter of Mr. & Mrs C. D. Childs of Elmdale.


     Ad - Peoples Food Super Market - Rationed items, Point value 14, green beans, 11 cents, point value, 24, apricots, 23 cents, & peanut butter, 29 cents a jar.


     Apr 7 - Plane crash kills Lieut. T. C. Galbraith, only son of Mrs Emma Gaibraith. He was with the Army Air Corps and killed near Ridgeland, South Carolina, while on a training mission.


     Apr 21 - Irvin Rettiger has been appointed water superintendent and street commissioner of Strong City to take the place of Jake Corfman who has resigned.


     Apr 28 - Captain Carroll Holmberg of the Cottonwood Falls Co. of Kansas State Guards will resign soon and will be succeeded by First Lieut. Bob Simmons.


     May 12 - Four more young men inducted from this county; Edwin Dean Childs, Robert James Way, William Burton Pringle, Thomas Fox McKee, III. All of the boys are from Elmdale.


     May 26 - Miss Minnie Norton to have a vacation after nineteen successive teaching years.


     Jun 2 - The county commissioners approved the welfare budget of about $67,000 for the ensuing year.


     Jun 9 - Mr. John Clyde Pretzer and Miss Marianne Isabelle Simmons are wed. The young couple will be a home on the Pretzer farm north of Elmdale.


     Jun 16 - Stauffer Ranch on Diamond Creek sold to Mr. Lawrence Spencer.


     Mr. & Mrs H. B. Jackson, of Clernents celebrates their 58th wedding anniversary. Mrs Jackson is the former Josephine Ice.


     Jul 14 - Chase County losing one of its doctors, Dr. & Mrs C. F. Hoover, of Saffordville leaving to live in Oaksland, Ks. Dr. Hoover has been a doctor in Saffordville the last 44 years.


     Jul 28 - Deaths: Levi Jones and Mrs C. A. Cowley.


     Aug 4 - Presbyterians honor Dr. M. W. Woodhull, who left for the Kansas Ordnance Plant Hospital at Parsons, Ks.


     The American Legion has purchased the old “stone church’ built in 1882-l885 of the United Presbyterian church.
