     Aug 18 1943 - Wm. Orland Crook who was born at Saffordville, in 1876, has passed away.


     Also Mrs Mary Ellen Brock McCabe, wife of William E. McCabe, has passed away - no children were born to this marriage.


     Aug 25 - A heart attack takes the life of J. B. “June” Smith, of this city. He was a member of the Smith Bros. grocery store business.


     Pvt. Robert “Buck” Fillmore who enlisted in the engineering division of the Army two years ago was killed in North Africa area July 16th.


     Wm. Ryan has been called to the Army next month.


     The Bank Hotel closes.


     Sep 18 - Mrs Willard Park (Edith Caress) died from a fall while doing housework at her home near Clements, at the age of 25.


     Mason Crocker will be moving to Texas to live.


     Sep 20 - First polio case in Chase County, Teddy White, 21 year old son of Mrs Katie White, of Strong City was taken sick.


     Sep 29 - Dean Brown of this city has enlisted in the Merchant Marines.


     Mrs Blanche Mushrush will be the new librarian, due to the resignation of Mrs Wilbur Mann.


     Esther Lee Ballew and Boyd Finuf are wed at Strong City.


     Oct 6 - Complete new front on Jim Bell store in this city. Wm. Huth was the contractor.


     Oct 20 - Mrs F. M. Gaddie, prominent resident of Bazaar, passed away. Roanna Talkington Gaddie was born at Elmdale.


     Oct 27 - Mr. & Mrs Fred Hinkle celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. The wedding cake, three tiered was baked by the Hinkle’s thirteen year old daughter, Freddie Mae.


     Nov 3 - Gregory house on Spring Street is sold to Carl B. Cowley and will be made into an apartment house.


     Nov 17 - Mrs W. R. Blackburn, of Bazaar passed away at her home in Bazaar.


     Nov 24 - Clarence Watchous has been appointed Street Commissioner for the City of Cottonwood Falls. He takes the place of 0. W. Parks, who resigned to work for the county.


     Dec 8 - Louis J. Frey, son of Minnie Pflager and Frank Frey has passed away. He had spent his entire life on the farm his father homesteaded on Stribby creek.


     12—29 - Mark Patton Mushrush a Matfield Green pioneer dies on Christmas day.

     Jan 5 1944 - Mrs Henry Wiebrecht, pioneer of Strong City for more than 55 years passed away. Mary Ann Stuhenhofer was her maiden name. Seven children survive.


     Feb 2 - Three golden wedding anniversaries are celebrated, Mr. & Mrs Fred Smethers of Elmdale; Mr. & Mrs P. C. Schimpff of this city; and Mr. & Mrs S. J. Sidener of Cedar Point.


     County loses two esteemed pioneers, Alfred William Ryan and Mrs Lewis Shipman Frey.


     Feb 9 - Mr. & Mrs Howard Green of Elmdale, are the parents of a boy, named Gerald Howard, born at the Stubenhofer home in Strong City.
