     Feb 16 1944 - Keith "Bill" Gibb of Elmdale, now stationed in Italy, was awarded the Purple Heart after suffering wounds in battle in Africa and Italy.

     Feb 23 - Two barns burn at the Clover Cliff Ranch.

     Mar 1 - Eugene Junior Hynson, 17 year old son of Mrs Esther Marie Hynson of Cottonwood Falls, enlisted in the U. S. Navel Reserve.

     Mar 8 - Elmer L. James died from burns received in a fire in the projection room of the Lyric theatre here in Cottonwood Falls.

     Births: Mr. & Mrs James Harbaugh, a girl named Delores Kay; Mr. & Mrs Dorman Brown, a son, named Roland Glenn; and Mr. & Mrs Wm. H. Potter, a son, named Leslie Eugene.

     Mar 15 - Dave Wood, son of Sam and Margaret Wood has passed away in Colorado.

     Harold Swift has the chicken pox so Frank Cox is driving the school bus.

     Mar 22 - Young Srgt. Neale Narramore, was killed in a plane crash while on a training flight.

     Services for James McNee are held. He married Queene Campbell of Elmdale, and had one son, James Campbell McNee.

     Marjorie, daughter of Mr. & Mrs A. C. Spain of Cedar Point and Roy Morgan are wed. Roy is the son of Mr. & Mrs Dean Morgan also of Cedar Point.

     Mar 29 - Sharp’s creek school house burns, and is completely destroyed. Mrs Doris Norton, teacher and one student a daughter of Mr Wehrenberg were absent on that day.

     Apr 5 - Miss Deloris Cahoone, of this city became the bride of Lt. Ronald J. Gibb, of Strong City.

     Mrs Emmett Cahoone of this city and Miss Lillian Shumate of Elmdale, have signed up with the WAC.

     Apr 12 - County is visited by a torrential rain - some parts of Chase County received 8 inches.

     Bank Hotel to reopen, by Mr. & Mrs A. J. Sullivan. Mrs Sullivan, the former Marguerite Ryan.

     Apr 19 - S. Sgt. Junior Butcher who was reported missing in action, is alive and a German prisoner of the war.

     Apr 26 - River breaks all flood records for 50 hours.

     May 8 - Born to Mr. and Mrs Hazen Slabaugh, of the Davis Ranch, at Strong City, a son named Marvin Eugene.

     May 17 - E. C. Crocker, a lifelong resident of Matfield Green passes after a long illness.

     May 31 - Trayer-Jelf buy the Short Motor Company.

     Jun 14 - William C. Austin slipped off into eternal sleep. A lifelong resident of Chase County. He married Rose Palmer in 1895 and was the Chase County Leader editor for years.

     Jun 21 - Miss Betty Long of this city becomes the bride of Mr. George Yeager of Bazaar.

     Chauncey Green dies in the hospital in Larned.
