     Jun 28 1944 - Mrs Katheryn Prather has passed away.


     Births: Mr. & Mrs Charles H. Davis, Jr. of Elmdale, a son, named Charles Henry III; Sgt. & Mrs Gene Baurngardner, a daughter, named Barbara Ann.


     Jul 5 - Les Cooper and Bob Carrier were fishing on Rock Creek, when a copperhead bit Les on the leg.


     Miss Helen Beedle of Bazaar is wed to Don J. Evans, 2nd Class Petty Officer TJ. S. Navy Air Corps in San Diego, California.


     Mrs 0. E. Burton, died at her home near Bazaar. Mary Bertha Fillmore was born in Berlin, Germany, the second child of Wm. and Augusta Fillmore. She came to America when a child of five. To the union of Mr. & Mrs Burton, six children were born, Albert, Edward, William and Mrs Eva Mott. Two sons died earlier.


     Jul 12 - County is way over top in fifth war loan.


     Chase County is losing a young and popular Dr. Geo. Simpson - he is going to Colorado.


     Jul 21 - Bomber crashes into the Jack Glanville home. Mrs Glanville ran outside and was knocked down by a blow from some flying debris, she was uninjured and suffered mostly from shock. Six men lost their lives and one survived


     Capt. Robert E. Lee Goad was shot down near the coast of Italy and officially listed as dead.


     Aug 23 - Wm. F. Messer, son of David and Laura Messer has passed away.


     Sgt. Victor Brecht, 26, waist gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress, was killed in action over Germany


     Mar 30 - Miss Connie Holmberg, oldest daughter of Mr. & Mrs C. F. Holmberg and Mr. Howard Roberts, son of Mr. & Mrs E. C. Roberts are married with a double ring ceremony at the Catholic parsonage, a day later little brother, Clifford Roberts and Miss Coral Maxine Little were also united in marriage.


     Sep 6 - Miss Irene Jackson became the bride of Mr. Howard Schwilling of Bazaar.


     Sep 13 - Mr. & Mrs H. R. ImMasche of Saffordville have three sons in the service, Lt. Robert ImMasche, Pvt. Victor ImMasche, and Mark ImMasche, who will enter training in November.


     St. Anthony’s school enrollment for 1944 is 35.


     Sep 20 - Little Roger Joe Glanville, son of Jack and Janet Glanville dies from an accident on Merritt hill.


     Oct 4 - Pvt. Albert "Bud” Swift, husband of Lenore Swift has been killed in action in France.


     Oct 18 - Miss Roberta Boles weds Tech. Sgt. Frank E. Judd at Emporia.


     Oct 25 - Mrs J. N. Riley died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Sid Cahoone.


     Mr & Mrs Orville Peterson, of Bazaar, have a new baby boy, and have named him Orville Max. This is their second son.


     Miss Eula Marie Burton is united in marriage to Glendon Barrett at the Burton residence.


     2nd. Lieut. Howard E. Blender dies in the Aleutions. He has been in the service about three years, and was 22 years of age. He is survived by his mother and father and one brother, Phillip A. Blender.
