     Nov 8 1944 - Sgt. Clifford Bell is a member of a B - 29 Superfortress bomber.


     Nov 15 - Don Heathman, son of Mr. & Mrs Roy Heathman of Bazaar is a German prisoner.


     Nov 25 - Wm. Gregory “young Bill” of this city went to California, shot his wife, Katherine, and then killed himself.


     Fred Austin, is now in charge of the Kansas Electric Company in this city.


     Nov 29 - Deaths: Frank Byram, Henry F. Erett, and E. T. Maddox.


     Dec 6 - Chase County suffers the second big flood this year.


     Dec 13 - A son was born to Mr. & Mrs Everett Wilson of Saffordville, named Thomas Evan.


     Dec 20 - Miss Bernice Rufener, of this city, and Darwin K. Reyer, of Saffordville are wed. The bride is the only daughter of Mr. & Mrs B. B. Rufener, who live west of this city.


     Doris Marie is the little ladys name who has come to make her home with Mr. & Mrs Kenneth Brent at Matfield Green.


     Jan 3 1945 - Henry Schoap buys the Mendenhall Produce. The Mendenhall’s have owned and operated their business here for 17 years.


     Ensign Florence Louise Fisburn (NC) NSNR of Portland, Oregon and M/Sgt. William Earl Pretzer of the U. S. Corps, of Elmdale were married in Santa Ana, Calif.


     Jan 10 - Patrick H. Sauble, son of John Sauble of Cedar Point received his silver wings, when he was graduated as a second lieutenant from the Marfa Army Air Field at Marfa, Texas.


     Jan 17 - Ernest Isaac James, Jr. 20, aboard Destroyer sunk during a typhoon and is reported as missing in action.


     Staff Sargent George S. Burton, 18, of Cottonwood Falls, ball turret gunner on the B-l7 Flying Fortress, “Ticket Home”, has been awarded the fourth Oak Leaf Cluster to the Air Medal for “meritorious achievement” while participating in bombing attacks on Nazi installments. He is the son of Mr. & Mrs Glen Burton of Cottonwood Falls.


     Jan 31 - Pasture rentals up a dollar this year.


     The Homestead parsonage burned down.


     Mr. & Mrs Dean Schroer of Strong City are the parents of a daughter, named Pamela Sue.


     Feb 14 - Funeral services are held for Dr. C. F. Hoover who practiced medicine in Saffordville for many years, before moving to Topeka.


     Feb 28 - John Madden, Sr., former Chase County Attorney passes away in Wichita.


     Mar 14 - Wm. Lawrence Bechelmayr, son of Mr. & Mrs Wm. Bechelmayr, of Elmdale, drowns in Diamond Creek, age 2 years.


     Mar 21 - Deaths: Zula Doolittle, Mrs Fred Wagoner, Earl Umberger, and Mrs Eliza Craig.


     Mar 28 - Grade schools of Chase County hold annual art exhibit.


     Sgt Allen B. Underwood services held at Matfield Green. He was killed in the line of duty in the North African area.


     Apr 11 - Miss Bonnie Osborn and William B. Short are wed in Wichita.
