     1945


     Apr 18 1945 - Entire nation mourns the death of our President, Franklin D. Roosevelt.


     S/Sgt Edward Heathman has been released from a German prison war camp near Vienna.


     Apr 25 - Deaths: Mrs Frank Daub and Clarence H. Garrison.


     Capt. Elmer Flickinger, reported missing in action in France since Sept. 1944 and later reported a prisoner of war, was moved from Camp Oflag 64 in Schubin, Poland.


     May 16 - Mr. & Mrs T. R. Wells celebrate their 50th. wedding anniversary.


     Jun 20 - H. B. Jackson and Josephine Ice Jackson celebrate 60 years of wedded life.


     Miss Lorena Marie Ludwig became the bride of Mr. Paul Irving Magathan.


     Jun 27 - Paul Bennett buys the Bank Hotel from the widow of Al Ryan in Strong City.


     Jul 4 - Mildred Edith Thompson and PFC Keith W. Gibb were united in marriage in Strong City. The bride was beautiful in a gown of Midnight blue sheer silk.


     Jul 18 - Chase County lost heavily in both population and tangible taxable valuation this past year.


     Pfc. Carl J. Dawson, who has been overseas ten months, most of which was spent in Germany, landed in New York for furlough.


     Aug 1 - Jim Bell has purchased the H. E. Doverspike farm, 4 miles east of Cottonwood Falls.


     Pfc. Caroline Cahoone, now stationed in London, England is spending a ten day furlough in Scotland.


     Aug 8 - A long list of Chase County’s discharged servicemen is posted in the Chase County Leader.


     Aug 15 - Several items taken off the ration list, gasoline, canned fruits and vegetables, fuel oil and oil stoves.


     The Leader will stop overseas papers on Oct. 1st. as service men are being shifted so rapidly. Se[ 12 - County loses two of it’s pioneer women, Mrs Mary E. Alford, and Mrs Ella Snedegar.


     Sep 19 - Mr. & Mrs Perry Layport, of this city, celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.


     Sep 26 - E. B. (Ned)Whitney of Hymer passes away.


     Oct 3 - Rains put river and creeks out of their banks.


     F. L. Grimwood is elected as the Exchange National Banks new cashier and W. Roy Mushrush from cashier to President.


     Mr. & Mrs Eugene Judd of Cottonwood Falls, are the parents of a son, named Robert Eugene.


     S/Sgt. and Mrs Charles G. Maybell are the parents of a son named Jon Craig.


     Oct 31 - Nine cars derailed on the Ellinor branch.
