     Jul 9 - Births Mr. & Mrs Deward Bailey, of Matfield Green, a son; Mr. & Mrs Glenn Crofoot, of Saffordville, a son, named Glenn Gordon; and Mr. & Mrs Wayne Ward, of Elmdale, a girl, named Virginia Lee.

     The Cottonwood Falls unit of the Kansas State Guard is to be "deactivated" or disbanded. A medical unit of the old National Guard if to he "Reactivated" or established here.

     Jul 16 - Matfield Green High School will build addition. A $30,000 general contract for a 2-story brick addition.

     Heat kills 2,078 turkeys three miles south of Cottonwood Falls on Buck Creek.

     Jul 23 - Wm. Hubert, who was born at Strong City in 1890 has died. Three children survive, Dorothy Jordan, Carl Hubert and Mrs David Jones.

     Jul 30 - Mrs Stanley North of Saffordville passed away. She was born near Saffordville, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs Tom Albin. Survivers are, her husband and two daughters, Jeannine and Corrine North.

     Paul Talkington, of Elmdale, earned $325 at Newton for his bareback bronc riding and bull riding contest in their three day rodeo.

     Aug 6 - Window displays boosting Kansas wheat will be set up by the 4-H Club members.

     Aug 6 - Leslie Pierce began working in the BB & B Lumber Co. in Cottonwood Falls as bookkeeper. He replaces J. T. Graham, who retired.

     Aug 13 - The F. W. Jeffrey’s of Elmdale, hail their Golden Wedding anniversary.

     Sep 3 - Miss Dorothy Willey, became the bride of Mr. Edwin Giger of Elmdale and Miss Dorothy Rider is united in marriage to Mr. Wm. Selves.

     Mr. & Mrs W. J. Pherigo of Cottonwood Falls are the parents of a son, named Joe Stanley.

     The outstanding exhibitor at this years fair is a boy from Matfield Green, Bobby Reidel. He made 32 entries, competing in nearly every department. Of his 32 entries, 10 were good for first prizes, seven for second, and three for third.

     Sep 10 - Raymond Jordon, veteran of WW II, was killed instantly when the tractor with which he was packing silage in a trench silo fell over backwards with him. Dorothy Hubert Jordon, his wife survives and his mother, Mrs John Glanville.

     Sep 24 - S. W. Bell will ask for an increase in rates.

     About 75 members of the Eastern Star, celebrated Friendship night at Saffordville.

     There are three sets of twins at the Cottonwood Falls Grade School, Carol & Karen Clark, Ronnie & Donnie Yoakem, and Patty & Shirley Dick.

     Oct 1- E. C. Crofoot buys the 1,000 acre farm of John Drummond’s near the mouth of Diamond Creek, four miles up river from Strong City. The price was a little under one thousand dollars.

     Ken Roberts of Strong City champion all round cowboy, again took first money in Madison Square Garden Rodeo in New York City when he won first in Bull Riding and first in Bronc Riding.

     Oct 8 - John Rufener, manager of the Chase Co. Coon Dog Field Trials reports the second annual races a success.
