     Feb 4 1948 - County examinations, as we used to known them, are a thing of the past in fact, there was nothing to base grades on except the teacher’s grade.


     Feb 11 - On the fund of $20,000 voted last year for Swope Park improvements have resulted in, the new agriculture (cement block) building, $7,469, flood lights for athletic field, $3,237, quonset hut building, wiring and light fixtures $73. A balance left in fund is $9,731.


     Feb 18 - Miss Mary Alice Rippett, and Gerald Lee Talkington, of Elmdale, are wed at Strong City. They will live at Elmdale.


     Feb 25 - Strong City walked home with the trophy for the county tournament after defeating Chase County High School 28 to 26. The game was a thrill to watch.


     Born to Mr. & Mrs Ernest Lawrence of Matfield Green, a daughter, named Linda Sue.


     Mar 3 - Death comes to Mrs Courtland Crouch.


     Mar 17 - Miss Imogene Peterson and Ted White were married at the Methodist parsonage in Cottonwood Falls.


     Elmer Cooper loses everything by fire, on the Coleman ranch, south of Saffordville.


     Mr. & Mrs J. E. Gordon of Strong City celebrated their 50 years together.


     Mar 24 - Camp Wood to open 33rd season.


     Births: Mr. & Mrs Kenneth Hastings of Strong City, a girl, Patricia Dianne; Mr. & Mrs Robert Henderson, of Elmdale, a son, Bobby Lee; and Mr. & Mrs Prentice Thurston, of Elmdale, a son, Larry Edwards.


     Mar 31 - On early Easter morning a fire at Saffordville takes the grocery store of Jeff Griffiths. Saffordville is now without a grocery store.


     Work is progressing on the new rodeo grounds at the northeast corner of of Strong City.


     Apr 14 - Deaths: Mrs E. D. Forney, Mrs John E. Gibb, and Joseph M. Potter.


     The first fireman’s annual ball was a success. About 250 people attended.


     Apr 24 - The second volume of the Chase County History has went to press.


     Apr 29 - The stockholders of the Farmers Union Co-operative Business Association of Strong City have voted to sell the store and the store building at a special election.


     May 5 - Cleo M. Lacer of Peabody and Donald W. Robinson of Cottonwood Falls are united in marriage.


     May 12 - Boys who have earned letters in track this past season at Chase County Community High School are: Richard Littler, Bob Cleaver, Ray Ybarra, Ned Hoover, Don Dick, Jerry Cross, Richard Carpenter, Eddie Cahoone, Harold Trayer, Carvel Oldham, Charles Klamm, and Charles Armagost.


     May 19 - County again loses in population.
