     May 26 1948 - Miss Wanda Pinkston, daughter of Mr. & Mrs W. T. Pinkston, of Bazaar, and Sidney M. Cahoone, Jr. of Cottonwood Falls are married at the home of Probate Judge Blackburn.


     Jun 9 - Deaths: Al Holmes, W. E. Brace and J. E. Bocook.


     Jun 16 - A new ticket office has been built at the entrance to Swope park, the old textile building has been remodeled and moved to the side of the park next to the armory building. It is used as living quarters for the caretaker of the park, Mr. Bill Bruce. The old dairy barn has acquired a new reinforced roof, new partitions, and a 30 foot addition on the north a new 24 x 30 bandstand and in front of the grandstand. The bond money of $20,000 is now all used.


     Births: Mr. & Mrs Gene Bumgardner, a daughter, Theresa Lynn; Mr. & Mrs Harold Trussell, a girl, Lana Jean; and Mr. & Mrs Roy Lawrence, a girl, Linda Lou.


     Jun 23 - The infant son of Mr. & Mrs Lawrence Daubs of Strong City has passed away.


     Jun 30 - Death takes prominent farmer, Homer J. Evans, age 66.


     Jul 14 - Mr. & Mrs J. 0. Wilson, of Strong City held open house in celebration of their Golden wedding anniversary.


     The body of the late Private Robert “Buck” Fillmore is scheduled to reach New York from Italy aboard the U. S. Army transport Carroll Victory; then onto Kansas City, Missouri and then to Cottonwood Falls.


     Jul 28 - Chase County is digging out from record breaking flood.


     A 3 cent stamp honoring William Allen White of Emporia is now on sale.


     Aug 4 - Hoover’s are selling their store and business. They have been plumbers here since 1931.


     The proposition of a local airport is discussed.


     Aug 11 - Work started on the new Flint Hills airport adjoining Cottonwood Falls on the south.


     Ella Nora Lawrence and Paul Miller are united in marriage at Topeka.


     Aug 18 - Wm. J. Deitrich, prominent Saffordville resident has passed away.


     Miss Barbara Chapman became the bride of Mr. Kipling H. Wells.


     Mr. & Mrs Ross Evans have bought the Blackburn Hardware store in Strong City.


     Aug 25 - Births: A daughter, Linda Rae to Mr. & Mrs Rollie Scott; a daughter, Mary Frances, to Mr. & Mrs Howard Stubenhofer; a son to Mr. and Mrs Wayne Yenzer.


     Sep 1 - Miss Norma Jean Spain and Mr. Paul Sidler were married at Newton.


     Sep 8 - Most schools show enrollment gain.


     Sep 15 - A score board was donated by Clyde Littler and erected at Swope park. It is a fine addition to the park.


     Sep 22 - Mrs Addie Crawford of the Clements community has passed away.


     Births: A son, Charles Leo, to Mr. & Mrs Paul Magathan; a girl to Mr. and Mrs George Stephenson.


     Sep 29 - W. A. “Fred” Coe of Cottonwood Falls is taken in death.
