Oct 21 1953 - Nita Hamilton, rural Elmdale, and Gene Barr, of Burdick are wed.
Oct 28 - Elmdale business man Clyde Pretzer, 62, dies on road home from California trip.
Nov 4 - The annual 4-H Achievement Day banquet to be given by the Chamber of Commerce has been set.
Nov 11 - John Hansen, Strong city blacksmith for 45 years, has passed away. Surviving him are his wife, Abigail, two sons, Carl and Robert, one daughter, Mrs C. E. Gaston.
The Robert Mushrush’s have a new baby girl, Barbara Kay .
Mr. & Mrs Albert Brickell of Saffordville a son.
Marvin Schwilling is assigned to study the lesser prairie chicken in Western Kansas
Nov 18 - Opening today on the new 50-S highway in Chase County. It marks the finish of a million dollar project.
Dec 2 - Morazzo building is sold to Jim Bell & Son. Jim Bell & Son will move into the building after redecorating and remodeling is completed.
The youth center will hold an open house at the Municipal building.
Dec 9 - The Bell family initiated “Belvue”, their new cabin home which is located on the top of Merritt hill, east of Cottonwood Falls.
Dec 16 - Sons are born to Mr. & Mrs Donald Horst of Elmdale, and Mr. & Mrs Robert J. Way of Cottonwood Falls.
Dec 23 - Winter’s first blast strikes Chase County.
Mrs E. J. Wilcox, 86, of Cottonwood Falls
has passed away.
“Courthouse family” holds annual Christmas party.
Dec 30 - Young mother, Dorothy Norton Armagost, 23, has passed away. She leaves a seven month old son, Ronald Charles, and her husband, Charles.
Mr. & Mrs Carl Nurnberg of Rt. 3 Emporia, are the parents of identical twin daughters. They have been named Arlene Faye and Charlene Mae.
Jan 6 1954 - Highway 13 road improvement well under way and should be completed by July 1st of this year.
Births: Mr. & Mrs Roy F. Morgan, Strong City, a girl, named Roberta Deanne; and Mr. & Mrs Claude McCabe of Cottonwood Falls, a son, Gary Ray.
Jan 13 - Residents of Cottonwood Falls were without water a few hours, due to a break in the main.
Jimmy Barr has been given the contract for the job of announcing the Flint Hills Rodeo this year.
Frank Mailen, passes away. He was a barber in Cottonwood before illness required his retirement.
Deaths: Mrs Martha Jane Ballew, 96, and Mrs Vesta Talkington, 87, also Mrs Etta McCabe Vestring, 85 of Wichita.
