     Jan 20 l954 - Harry Buffington buys the Spencer locker plant at Cottonwood Falls.


     Contract let for job on river channel to divert the direct flow of water around what is known as the Howard Pocket.


     Jan 27 - Community is saddened by the death of Fred J. Austin, Manager of local Kansas Power & Light Co.


     Feb 3 - Paul Wiand is named head of Light Company - successor to the late Fred J. Austin.


     Dial telephone service coming to three areas, Cottonwood Falls, Strong City and Bazaar.


     Mr. & Mrs Francis Towle of Strong City are the parents of a daughter, Dorothy Mae.


     Death comes suddenly to Sidney B. Replogle well known Cottonwood Falls man.


     Open house will be held at the Wilbur Talkington home to honor Mr. & Mrs E. T. Baker, on their 25th. wedding anniversary.


     Feb 10 - The new derby station and cafe, is open along the new 50S highway in Strong City. Mr. & Mrs Howard “Dutch” Brown are the owners.


     Feb 17 - The Chase County Music Festival will soon be held. All seven high schools of the county to take part.


     Survey is being made for the proposed state lake.


     Titus Daub, a grocery store owner in Strong City for 42 years has passed away.


     Mar 10 - New Standard Station opens in Strong City. Paul M. Bennett is the owner, and has leased it to Jack Quinn.


     Mar 17 - Nancy Ballweg chosen to attend Girls State.


     Mrs Jennie Rogler Wood, 74, of Cottonwood Falls, a member of one of Chase County’s most prominent pioneer families, passed away.


     Strong City will be minus the signal tower and watchman at the RR crossing in the near future.


     Mar 24 - Grandstand at Swope Park is damaged by wind.


     Mar 31 - Construction of a 100 acre lake on Chase County site authorized by State Commission. It will be located 3 miles west of Cottonwood Falls.


     Seven trophies won by Strong Township High School basketball teams are on display in the Evans Hardware Store window.


     Apr 7 - Mrs Claire Ward has accepted the full time position as City clerk of Cottonwood Falls.


     Mr. & Mrs Jesse Miser of Bazaar have a new baby girl, Dawn Marie.


     Mr. & Mrs William Fillmore celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary at their home in Cottonwood Falls.


     Apr 14 - Annual Chase County Spring Beef show has largest showing in many years.
