     Jul 7 1954 - Robert Kevin Carrier was born, July 4th. a firecracker baby.


     Jul 14 - Mercury reaches 116 degrees here on July 13th.


     Rodeo Association renames Fred Howard a President.


     An air cooler is being installed at the Uptown Theatre in Strong City.


     Jul 21 - Dial telephone service is expected by Oct. 1st.


     Francis Towle is a Republican candidate for sheriff in the August primary. He has served as deputy sheriff under the present sheriff, George Shaw, for 3½ years.


     Jul 28 - Dennis Maddox, 14, Forest Holdeman, 12, and R. K. Holdeman, 14 caught a 42 pound catfish at the dam on the Cottonwood river at Cottonwood Falls.


     Aug 11 - Square dance at the platform south of Cedar Point.


     Aug 18 - Mr. & Mrs Dudley Doolittle, Jr. of Strong City are the parents of a son, Dudley III.


     All teaching positions of Chase County are filled. The names of some are: Clements - Mrs Helen Chapman; Bazaar - Mrs Marguerite Buffon; Cottonwood Falls - Mrs Lois Wheat, Miss Maxine Pinkston; and Pleasant Valley - Mrs Myrtle Cox.


     22 blocks in Cottonwood Falls under consideration for curb and guttering and surfacing.


     Holdeman Service Station in Cottonwood Falls has been purchased by Ray M. Riggs.


     Aug 25 - Engineers began work of setting turnpike stakes in Chase County.


     Fire at Swope Park destroys two buildings, the poultry building and horse shed.


     Aug 1 - Matfield Green vote favors bonds for water plant.


     Large number of fish have died in the water on South Fork due to lack of oxygen.


     Sep 8 - Frank Daub passes in California.


     George Rettiger recently enlisted in the US Army and has been sent to Fort Bliss, Tx. for basic training.


     To vote on proposed new Chase County Shop in Cottonwood Falls.


     Public sale as farm is being rented. T. W. Wells, six miles northwest of Elmdale.


     Sep 15 - Flint Hills Motel sold to the George Misers.


     Sep 22 - Telephone Company sets Oct. 20th as dial day.


     Births: Mr. & Mrs J. T. Overstreet of Elmdale, a daughter, Rebecca Ann; Mr. & Mrs Dan Matile, Bazaar, a son, Joe Allen.


     Mary Glass & Win. Archer are wed.


     Sep 29 - Pioneer rancher Wm. F. Norton dies at the Norton ranch near Bazaar. He had a very rare mechanical ability and no mechanical problem was ever too difficult for him to solve. Wm. never married.


     Chase County is added to drouth aid list.
