     1958 - 1959


     Nov 26 1958 - Mr. & Mrs Harold Steadman, Cottonwood Falls, are the parents of a son.


     Dec 3 - Mr. & Mrs Dennis Maddox, Marion, have a new son.


     Snow blankets this area on Thanksgiving.


     Dec 10 - Thomas R. Wells, 89, of Elmdale, is taken in death.


     Dec 17 - Dean McCallum Matfield Green is elected as President of the Chase County Fair.


     Matthew L. Pennington well known Strong Citian passed away. Mr. Pennington worked for the Santa Fe railroad and janitor at the Strong City High School until he retired due to health.


     Mr. & Mrs Paul Sidler, Strong City have a son, John Wesley.


     Dec 24 Mr. & Mrs G. R. Spain, of Elk celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.


     Dec 31 - Mrs Homer Evans, Cottonwood Falls, died this morning in St. Mary’s Hospital.


     Four offices at the Chase County Courthouse are receiving new floor covering of vinyl tile. The work is being done by Croy’s.


     Jan 7 1959 - John J. McLinden, Sr. widely known auctioneer of Cedar Point passes away. Also Adrian L. Bocook.


     The Delbert Eshbaugh’s attend the hardware convention at Kansas City, Mo.


     Plane crash while flying in a coyote hunt takes the lives of the Huyler brothers of the Hymer community. Wm. was 28, and Robert, 26; John H. Scobee of Clements also passes away.


     The Frank Gaddie Family of Bazaar is featured in the Emporia Gazette as “Farm Family of the Month”.


     Feb 11 - Storm puts ice coat over area.


     Feb 18 - Elmer Swift, 52, a native and life - long resident of Matfield Green is taken in death


     Mr. & Mrs T. E. Miser had golden wedding.


     Feb 25 - Deaths: C. W. Watchous, Mrs Rollie Scott, Cottonwood Falls, & Wm. G. ImMasche, Saffordville.


     Mar 4 - Wm. S. Romigh, 86, of Cottonwood Falls has been taken in death.


     Mr. & Mrs James Bell, Jr. Cottonwood Falls, are the parents of a son, Robert James.


     Neil McCallum is the new Bluestem Coop Manager.


     Saffordville roars from behind to win Grade school tournament.


     Mar 18 - Tom Norton, well known in Chase county dies at Topeka. He is the last of the five Norton brothers. Grace Beedle is his sister.


     Mar 25 - Toledo voters reject proposal to consolidate with Chase County Community High School.


     Apr 1 - Elmer Coopers burned out of home for third time.
