May 30, 1901 -- The chinch bugs are taking the corn so badly that several of the farmers
are replanting.
June 6, 1901 -- Mrs Ellen Madden, wife of John Madden died at her residence near Bazaar.
J. B. Sanders was sworn in a City Treasurer at the City Council meeting.
Mr & Mrs W. A. Morgan are leaving for a three months absence in, Canada,
Europe & the continent.
Matt Fritts, who has been a resident of Diamond creek since l887, left the
county to find a new location.
Fred Shipman, a former Chase County boy, now living in California stopped
in to see old friends.
Marriage of I. W. Self, of Cedar Point & Lura Swainhart.
Marriage license issued to, Sidney D. Swift of Matfield & Laurence Harrison,
of Bazaar.
A program will be rendered at the opening of the Hall at Saffordville.
June 13, 1901 -- A grand parade will be held at the city & Strong City on the 4th. of July. Many of the small towns in the county have preparations for celebrations.
Marriage License issued to; L. C. Hubbard & Anna Thomas of Matfield.
W. H. Holsinger went to Kansas City to mingle with the Shriners.
Dr. A. Kendell has opened an office in the Johnston building, opposite Finley jewelry store.
John Blackmore, street commissioner, was out with a large force, grading &
cleaning streets. A much needed improvement.
Alice, the 20 month of daughter of Mr. & Mrs E. J. Fairhurst died.
It is reported that the quarries east of Strong City will be opened up soon and a crusher put in.
Word reaches this city of the death of one of the oldest residents of Saffordville. N. J. Shellenbarger. A log rolled off the wagon, tipping the wagon load of logs over and crushed him.
June 20, 1901 -- "Grandma Piles" who has been sick for some time, died Friday and was buried
Saturday, Cynthia A. Piles, age 90 years.
There will be an ice cream social at the Patton school house. Proceeds to be used for church purposes.
Born, a daughter to Mr. & Mrs Alex Maule.
Dr. Addison Kendell & Miss Edith Stafford were wed in the holy bonds of wedlock at the bride's home. Their home will be in the Drinkwater house.
