     Jan 18 1961 - Deaths: Claude Wagoner of Matfield Green, Mrs Ed (Edith Fillmore) Boles, of Cottonwood Falls, Thomas J. Grimwood & Paul Fagard.


     Jan 25 - Controlling stock in the Strong City State Bank is sold. The Doolittle heirs sell to Leland Norris of Kansas City.


     Retired farmer who has been a resident of the Bazaar vicinty, Roy Heathman, dies at his farm home. Surviving him are his wife and six sons.


     Raymond Lutt leases the Skelly Service Station in Strong City.


     A houswarming party is given for the Paul Evans who just moved to the Saffordville vicinity.


     Feb 8 - The T. C. Crawford farm in the Clements vicinity has been sold to Carl Wyatt.


     Nancy Ballweg, Cottonwood Falls and Elden L. Hodges are wed.


     Feb 15 - A bronze plaque is presented to C. K. "Casey" Jones, Cottonwood Falls, for rating second in Kansas as dairy efficiency producer.


     Feb 22 - Mr. & Mrs Claude Grokett, Cottonwood Falls, are the parents of a baby girl, named Phyllis Jean.


     The Lee Byrams will hail their Golden Wedding Anniversary.


     Mar 1 - William Bruce, 52, of Cottonwood Falls was killed on the job by a falling tree while at work for the Chase County Highway Dept.


     Births: Mr. & Mrs T. G. Stephenson, Elmdale, a daughter, Betsy Gay; Mr. & Mrs Richard Johnson, a girl, Carmen Kay; Mr. & Mrs Robert Glanville, a girl, Loraine Christine; Mr. & Mrs Jimmy Barr, a girl, Ann Marie; and Mr. & Mrs Robert Archer, a son, Robert Alan.


     Dr. Leo F. McKee elected as head of the Chamber of Commerce. The annual Girl Scout Father-Daughter banquet is held.


     Mar 8 - Elmdale High School won a berth in the State Class BB Basketball tournament which opens at Dodge City.


     Deaths: John Sampson, 91, of Strong City, & Louis Kaufman, 85, of the Prairie Hill vicinity.


     The Lee Byrams of Cedar Point are honored on their 50th wedding anniversary.


     Mar 15 - Elmdale is runner up in the State Basketball tourney.


     The log cabin of Seth Hayes is to be moved to Swope Park. It is a gift to the Chase County Historical Society by Seth’s adopted daughter.


     Hugh Joseph O’Reilly of Strong City and Eileen Browne of New York City are married.


     Mr. & Mrs Henry ImMasche will mark their Golden Wedding Anniversary soon.


     Mar 22 - Mary Ann Mushrush was selected a Chase County Centennial Queen at colorful event.


     Mr. & Mrs Harold Steadman of Strong City, are the parents of a daughter, named Patricia Ann.


     Mar 29 - Open house at Elmdale High School honors Mr. & Mrs Lee McCabe’s Golden Anniversary.
