     1961


     Dec 20 1961 - Ad - Way’s Food Store; Sunshine oranges, 1 doz. 59 cents, 1 can campbell tomato soup, 10 cents.


     Mrs Frank Mailen, former Chase Co. Register of Deeds is found dead at her home in Cottonwood Falls.


     Jan 10 1962 - Remodeling nears completion at the Chase County courthouse - work includes, new sidewalks, floor coverings, storage cabinets, ceiling and painting, a ladies rest room was put in the basement, trimming of 18 Cedar trees. County Clerk, Harold E. Gibb reports approximately $5,200 was spent out of the County General Fund for the work.


     Blizzard sweeps across this area.


     Births: A boy to Mr. & Mrs Vernon Nienstedt, Hershel R.; a girl, to Mr. & Mrs Kenneth Stahl, Kim Elaine; and Mr. and Mrs Robert Blount have a new daughter, Karen Sue.


     Jan 17 - Amy Lou Gaddie reigns as queen of Chase County Homecoming.


     The names of 25 persons from Chase Co. who lost their lives in WWII will be placed on a memorial plaque to be added to the WWI mounument on the courthouse lawn.


     Jan 24 - Cedar Point parents favor maintaining high school.


     Jan 31 - John Bock is named as SCD Supervisor.


     Glenn G. Crofoot of Strong City was awarded the 1962 Kansas Bankers Soil Conservation award.


     Feb 7 - January marked by severe cold and snow.


     Mr. & Mrs Wm. A. Potter, Cottonwood Falls will hail half century of wedded life.


     Also Mr. & Mrs Dana L. Crawford will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary.


     Hattie Rosa Stephenson and Kermit Vernon Starkey are wed at Emporia.


     Feb 14 - Wage hike for city employees is reported by Leonard Croy, Mayor.


     Alfred Titus has bought the Fanning ranch southeast of Cottonwood Falls.


     Feb 21 - June Bechelmayr served as a page to Irving Myers in Topeka.


     Mar 7 - Champions of the BB District 15 - the Elmdale High School Cougars. They have had a 20-game winning streak.


     Proposed new addition at the Cottonwood Falls grade school will be voted on soon.


     Robert “Bob" Mushrush is the new member of the Exchange National Bank, who started as a Clerk.


     Effective at once, no double parking on either side of Broadway at any time.


     Mar 14 - M. C. Jelf, business man of Cottonwood Falls is taken in death.


     Mar 21 - Wm Lawrence, 82, had been a lifetime resident of this and the Bazaar communities passes away.


     Elmdale Cougars third in State basketball tournament.


     Decisive approval for Cottonwood Falls grade school addition given in election.


     Mar 28 - Cheryl Crofoot wins county spelling contest.


     Apr 4 - Mrs Claude Grokett was appointed as Cottonwood Falls City Treasurer.
