     1964 - 1965


     Dec 23 1964 - Mr. & Mrs C. D. Childs of Elmdale will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They have lived on the same farm at Elmdale since their marriage, December 24, 1914.


     Dec 30 - Youth dies in flaming wreck. Royal Hettenbach, 17, a member of a Clements ranch family, Mr. & Mrs Milton Hettenhach.


     Elmdale is to have a new post office. Building to be located across the street from the present one.


     Miss Delores Swift and Robert Lee Long are united in marriage.


     Jan 6 1965 - Lt Bruce N. Wood, was recently separated from the U. S. Navy in San Francisco, Calif. Lt. Wood served four years in the Navy, two in the Mediterranean area and two in Japan.


     Vicky Koger is Jobs Daughters new queen.


     Mr. & Mrs E. C. Roberts hail their golden anniversary.


     Jan 20 - Ernest K. Davis, Chase County Weed Supervisor, dies unexpectedly at his home in Strong City.


     Jan 27 - James H. Graham, 85, a retired stone mason, and a native of Scotland, has died.


     Feb 3 - Huge area ranch is sold to Texan. T he Merrill ranch along K-177 in Chase County and Morris County involves nearly 13,000 acres and sold for more than one million dollars.


     Feb 10 - Miss Anna Grover who had lived her entire life in Chase County has passed away. Also Charles L. Simmons, 94, died in the hospital at Emporia.


     The City of Strong has a new fire truck, equipped with the latest features.


     Feb 17 - The soft water for the entire city of Cottonwood Falls will be in operation about Mar. 1st.


     Cheryl Gaines and Joe L. Mauderly are wed in ceremony at Presbyterian Church.


     Feb 24 - The Elmdale Grade School are the champions of the county basketball tournament. They are coached by Ron Mayo.


     Mrs W. R. "Chet” Zahn, 68, of Strong City has passed away.


     Mary Ann Miller and Gary Mott are wed.


     Mar 3 - Mr. & Mrs Wayne Childs are the parents of a girl, Lynnette Ann. She has an older brother, Clayton, 3 years old.


     Mar 10 - Strong City High Indians press on to State tournament berth at Dodge City.


     The Chase County High Bulldogs to State basketball tournament for the first time in history of school.


     Mar 17 - The Strong City High Indians nip Montezuma 48-47 to win State Class BB Title at Dodge City.


     Wm. Studer area farmer and stockman who came to Chase County from Switzerland is taken in death. Also Mrs Hugh K. Campbell, of Strong City who was a former teacher, and Mrs Paul Ayers, 43, passes at his home at rural Clements.


     Mar 24 - The Pleasant Valley school house District #45 and its contents and the playground equipment were sold at public auction. Paul Scharenberg bought the building for $185.00. School was held for its last term in 1957-58.
