     Jan 17 1968 - The Strong City girl’s basketball team clobber’s White City 63 - 11. High scorers were, Vicki Davis and Micki Stout.


     Jan 24 - Tom Bell has been employed at the Exchange National Bank in Cottonwood Falls.


     Deaths: Mrs Ross McPhail and Miss Pearl Starkey.


     Jan 31 - Robert R. Mushrush has been named President, of the Exchange National Bank. He succeeds his father, W. Roy “Pat” Mushrush.


     M. C. “Mit” Kline, 52-year-old Elmdale farmer died at his home.


     Feb 7 - F. M. Gaddie is listed in the fourth place spot among the top ten scorers in the Cottonwood Valley League.


     Feb 14 - Mr. & Mrs Walter Phillips have bought a 37-acre farm at the west edge of Cottonwood Falls from Ralph Klamm and wife.


     Feb 21 - Miss Sheila Phipps of the Chase County High School is reigned as “Queen of Court”.


     Feb 28 - Gene Ayers, 18, son of Paul Ayers of Clements was instantly killed and another Chase County youth, Danny Potter, 19, son of Mr. & Mrs Leslie D. Potter of Saffordville was seriously injured in a smashing, near head-on crash, three miles west of Emporia on Highway 50.


     Mr. & Mrs J. A. Banks of Matfield Green hail their Golden wedding anniversary.


     Mar 6 - A proposed addition to Chase County High School would adequately fill needs for all students in USD - 284.


     Jim Bell, Jr. will head the Cottonwood Falls Chamber of Commerce.


     Deaths: C. W. Schwilling, of Bazaar, Wm. T. Brown of Strong City, and George Oliver of Cottonwood Falls.


     Mar 20 - Tom Nurnberg and F. M. Gaddie are selected on all CVL team.


     Mar 27 - Chase countians approve high school expansion by 89 vote margin.


     Apr 3 - Oliver E. Burton, 87, a Chase County pioneer has passed away. Byron A. Hancock of the Toledo vicinity has also passed away.


     Apr 10 - Local resident Earl C. Keener dies in Newman Memorial Hospital. Also Mr. C. R. (Andy) Rains of Matfield Green.


     The first annual easter egg hunt will be held in Swope Park.


     Gwenda Lynn Griffing and Eugene Glen Eidman are wed.


     Apr 17 - Lease prices for bluestem pastures in the Flint Hills are at a record high level.


     The USD-284 has purchased the Brown-Bennett.Furniture Store building on Broadway for $3,000. It will be used as the office headquarters.


     May 1 - Leroy Butter is the new weed supervisor for the county.


     May-8 - Tragic mishap fatal to three local residents in a car-truck crash. Those killed from Chase County are: Paris D. Gibson, and Mr. & Mrs W. C. ‘Curt’ Goad.
