     Mar 11 1971 - 27 thinclads are out for track at the Chase County High School.

     Mar 18 - Deaths: Charles Caress, John W. Story & Mrs Evan Koger.

     Mar 25 - Deaths: Vernie Collins, John C. Scribner & Jack Davis.

     Forty singers are working on the Easter Cantata.

     Apr 8 - Banks of Chase County offer free trees.

     Apr 22 - Deaths: Chauncey D. Childs of Elmdale, two month old Wilbur Tannahill, and Mrs Arthur Drummond.

     Apr 29 - The Chase County Courthouse is entered on the National Register of of Historic places.

     Strong City lad Gregory Davis, 14, remains critical after being hit by a car. Gregory later died of his injuries.

     May 6 - Chase County Jaycees will sponsor a fishing contest at the Chase County State Lake.

     May 13 - Leader-News goes to offset.

     Another postal rate hike is coming.

     May 20 - Jerry McNee is the pool manager for the current season.

     May 27 - Weekend storms unleash their fury across Chase County - damage is heavy.

     Jun 3 - Mrs Charles (Blanche) Schwilling retires as postmaster at Bazaar, after 28 years of service.

     The razing of the old building just south of the Santa Fe tracks in Strong City that formerly housed a hotel and restaurant, known in the early days as the “Harvey House.” Edwin Childs did the razing.

     Jun 17 - Downpours continue accompanied by windstorms and massive hail in Chase County.

     Mr. & Mrs Robert Fillmore of Strong City are the parents of a son, Roy Wayne.

     Elizabeth Kay Fillmore Sidler and William Earl Kleins Orge are united in marriage.

     Jun 24 - Expansion and remodeling have been completed at the Cedar Point State Bank.

     Pamela Spain and Steven K Zimmerman are wed.

     Jul 1 - Miss Kathy Petford and Mr Larry Childs are wed.

     James L. Fink area youth goes “Navy.”

     Jul 8 - Retired Elmdale banker, George T Dawon, passes away.

     Jul 15 - The Kansas wheat crop is the largest in history.

     A new business Dan’s Electric has opened this week in Cottonwood Falls. Danny L. Potter is the owner and operator.

     Matfield Green couple Mr. & Mrs Henry Rogler are nearing their seventy years of married life.

     Jul 29 - A young businessman Douglas Jackson, 18, has opened his new business, Doug’s Flowers in Strong City. Undoubtedly, Jackson is Chase County’s youngest full scale businessman.

     Deaths: Mrs Lloyd Clark, 60, & Mrs A. E. Titus, 82.
