     Aug 12 1971 - Wm. E. Pretzer, 52, a lifetime resident of Elmdale has passed away, also James Nuttle McNee.


     Mr. & Mrs Dennis Maddox have a new daughter, Nancy Jolene.


     Aug 19 - Mrs Ernest McKenzie, 87 who had been a resident of Cottonwood Falls since the age of three has died and also Charles Duke.


     Aug 26 - A dress code is adopted by USD-284 for the students of the grade & high schools.


     Sep 9 - Deaths: Mrs Charles P. Caress, 87, of Cottonwood Falls, and Charles J Brown retired businessman of Cottonwood Falls.


     Sep 16 - The Board of Chase County Commissioners let a contract to Groh & Son, Emporia, for repair of roofs on the courthouse and the Roniger Museum.


     Jul 23 - Elmdale is selected for film scenes of “Bad Company.”


     Robert Mushrush will head the courthouse centennial activities.


     The Chase County High band have a membership of forty-five.


     Oct 14 - Mr. & Mrs John Haglund have a new daughter, Holly Ann.


     Oct 21 - A new roof is going on at the American Legion Hall in Cottonwood Falls by volunteer Legionnaires.


     Well known retired nurse Helen Stubenhofer has passed away. The Stubenhofer home became the Stubenhofer Maturnity Home, ran by Helen and her sister, Frances, who was also a R.N.


     Deaths: Wm. Richardson and Mrs M. H. Heckendorn.


     Nov 4 - Mrs Charles (Elizabeth Cartter) Gregory, of Cottonwood Falls celebrated her 100th birthday.


     Nov 11 - Strong City will construct 20 units of low-cost housing soon.


     Nov 18 - “Mr. Conservation” award goes to Patrick H. Sauble of Cedar Point.


     Five are selected on CVL all-league team and are: Doug Wilson, Dave Cooper, Ron Armagost, Warren Harshman and Albert Solis.


     Nov 25 - Lifetime area resident Charles Buffington passes away.


     Dec 16 - Deaths: Eugene Reehling of Cottonwood Falls and Olla Fae Jelf.


     Dec 30 - William Samuel Laughridge, 91, of Cottonwood Falls has passed away, also Mrs Glenn Miller of Strong City and Noble Easter and Howard Huyler.


     Wrestling is a new sport at Chase County High School this year. Coached by Ronald Mayo.


     Jan 6 1972 - Van Dorn’s Jewelry and Gifts changed ownership and Mr. & Mrs Richard Littler have purchased the business.


     The draft board office moves to Emporia.


     Jan 13 - Elza H. Wyatt of Cottonwood Falls passes away.


     Jan 27 - Deaths: Mrs Rex (Susie) Robison of Cedar Point and Everett E. Wilson, of Strong City.


     Feb 3 - Levi Koegebohn is buried at the Elk cemetery.


     Feb 10 - Mr. & Mrs Sidney Cahoone are the new owners of the Longhorn Family Center in Cottonwood Falls.


     Feb 17 - Sale of the Chase County Courthouse Centennial medallions are now on sale. Mrs Ted Scott & Mrs Pascal Roniger designed the medallions.
