     1972 - 1973

     Oct 19 1972 - An article on Lillard Brown’s record holding since 1925 is featured in the Leader-News. Lillard set the record while attending Chase County High School as a senior in the 220-yard dash in a time of 22.4 seconds. One of Lillard’s daughter who was born and lives in Cottonwood Falls is Mrs James (Norma Jean) Redick. Maybe one of her and Mr. Redick’s four sons will break their grandfather’s record.

     Oct 26 - Mrs Charles (Blanche) Schwilling is the senior queen and Cheryl Wyatt, junior queen of the Centennial.

     Nov 2 - Deaths: Mrs Floyd Potter and Willard 0. Hilton.

     Medical doctor A. E. Titus, of Cottonwood Falls, who was 87 years young marks his 59 years here in his general practice of medicine.

     Opening day of Centennial was chuck full of varied activities.

     Nov 9 - Edgar L. (Curley) Heath of rural Cottonwood Falls dies in hospital.

     Nov 23 - Roy L. (Rosie) Britain 55 of the Bazaar vicinity sudden passing shocks community.

     Angela N. Brookes and Bruce Nelson Wood are wed in North Wales.

     Nov 30 - Charles H. (Chuck) Hager, 63, of Cottonwood Falls has passed away.

     Open house reception honors Charles Fears on their golden wedding anniversary.

     Nov 7 - Glendon Barrett receives a diamond 4-H clover pin for his 20 years as being a club community leader of the Gladstone 4-H.

     Dec 21 - Joe Sigel is now scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 255.

     Dec 28 - President Harry S. Truman has died.

     Jan 4 1973 - John W. Samples, Jr. of route 1, Matfield Green dies at his home.

     The Vocational Agriculture Building erected in 1920 on the Chase County campus has been torn down. Razed to make more space for parking.

     Jan 18 - The newly formulated Chase County Health Dept. located in the Edwin Childs business building in Strong City has opened.

     Clements post office expected to close.

     Mr. and Mrs H. C. Pendergraft, Sr. to hail golden anniversary.

     Jan 25 - Deaths: Mrs Drew Narramore, Mrs S. L. Evans, and M. A. (Murve) Carrier.

     Tragic accident takes life of high school sophomore, Janna Odle, 15, of the Homestead vicinity.

     Feb 1 - Nancy Kay Mercer and Richard Travis Griffin are wed. Also Vicki Lynn Davis and Marvin Lee Adcock.

     Feb 15 - Miss Fanny Lowman a retired school teacher and longtime resident of Cedar Point succumbs. Also Mrs Carrol F. Holmberg.

     Sally Pearle Stephenson and Richard Lee Welter are wed.

     Feb 22 - F. W. (Bill) Huth is taken in death. Mr. Huth was a retired building contractor. He was a veteran of WW I.

     Joyce Jones Vonada and Dallas L. Garr, are united in marriage.

     Mar 1 - Mrs Arch Miller succumbs in Ohio. Burial was in the Miller cemetery.
