     1973 - 1974


     Dec 27 1973 - The Cottonwood Falls City Council is seeking a new marshal.


     Major ice & snow storm hits the area.


     New driver’s license will require eye and a written exam, effective Jan. 1st.


     Jan 3 1974 - Mrs Paul B. (Olive Cope) Wood of Elmdale passed away.


     Courthouse fire in sheriff’s quarters confined to the living room.


     The third blast of winter hit Chase county again.


     Jan 10 - Cedar Point State bank elects and marks 60th year.


     Dorothy Mae Towle & Richard McDonald are wed as is Jana Elizabeth Barrett & Ronald Charles Armagost.


     Nov 17 - Longtime Clements resident Mr. W. V. Harshman passes away.


     Rib Eye Cattle Co. office is established in the Masonic Temple by Eugene “Gene” Peacock.


     The Cedar Point girls basketball team is on a winning streak at 5-0.


     Jan 31 - Otto L. Frey of Strong City has died.


     Certified scuba divers have a lake practice session which included: Noah “Shorty” Peach, Steve Cahoone, Steve Dawson, Donnie Yoakem & Kim Crofoot.


     Feb 7 - A forty-one car train derailment happened about 2 miles north of Matfield Green.


     Keith Zimmerman has been hired as the Cottonwood Falls City Marshal.


     Chamber gives go-ahead on the suggested area cowboy trail.


     The Pierce twins, Lester and Leslie of Strong City celebrate their 60th birthday.


     Mr. & Mrs Jack Campbell of Cottonwood Falls hail their 50 years together.


     Feb 14 - Mrs Levi (Emma) Jones will be 107 years old in three days.


     Thomas Hudson, 52, of Cottonwood Falls was found dead at his home.


     Feb 21 - Emma Sidener, longtime resident of Chase Co., will celebrate her 101st. birthday.


     Feb 28 - The flu bug and other ailments hit hard in USD-284 centers.


     Kathy Barr of rural Burdick was named “Queen of Courts” at the Chase County High School, football game.


     Mr. & Mrs Fred Swenson of Saffordville will hail their golden anniversary. Dance - Longhorn Family Center - 9PM to 12:30AM.


     Mar 7 - Retired marshal Charles E. Fear, 72, of Cottonwood Falls succumbs, also Wm. H. Ward.


     The remodeling at the Strong City post office is completed.


     The speed limit to be 55 miles per hour.


     Mar 21 - Lee Drummond retired as Strong City’s water superintendent of 24 years, Richard Potter has been employed as the new water superintendent.


     Mr. & Mrs Tom Pinkston rural Strong City have a new son, Thomas Lynn, Jr.


     Mar 28 - Weiss Cattle Co. will hold its first production sale.
