     A hold-up scare occurred on the Superior branch at Hymer.


     Marriage license issued to; Walter C. Wood & Eunice Channel, both of Elmdale.


     The entire assessed valuation of the county is $2,959,990.


     Geo.Hoover formerly of Strong City, well known in this community died at his home in Emporia.


     The ice cream social on the lawn of the Lantry home in Strong City by the ladies of St. Anthony's Catholic Church was well attended & a handsome sum was relized.


     Marriage of Margaret Hannah Gillett & James Chester Dwelle held in the Falls.


     A bold attempt to rob Hughes Jewerly Store in Strong City. The thiefs secured only 2 watches & a watch case.


     Sept. 5, 1901 -- Mercer Bros. shipped two car loads of 3-year old steers, realizing $39 per head.


     Miss Minnie Nichol is the teacher at Mrs Hill Dist. #27 this seven month term.


     Mrs D. A. Beck has sold her millinery business in Elmdale, to her competitor, mrs Louise Pearsall.


     The finest white grapes in this county came from Henry Proeger's.


     Sept. 12, 1901 -- Now is the time to use sticky, fly paper. The best at Replogle's Drug Store.


     Dan Reifsnyder, of Strong City switching in the Superior yards, last week, received an injury to one of his knees, that will lay him up for awhile.


     C. A. Kolb, has sold his billard saloon to Lee Holz.


     The singers of Cottonwood Falls are rehearsing every night, "Patience," one of Gilbert & Sullivan's most popular productions, which will be presented in Music Hall.


     Born, to Mr. & Mrs L. J. Messer, a daughter, & to Mr. & Mrs James Hulse, Clements, a daughter, Alice, who died four days later. Mr. & Mrs Lloyd Allen, a daughter.


     Sept. 19, 1901 -- Bessie Wood left to attend the State University at Lawrence.


     Chase is the 5th county in the state in alfalfa acreage. In 1891 the acreage was 1,401. This year it is 10,390.


     Micheal Beck, a former resident of Diamond creek, dies in Ill.


     Alice McNee, who formerly lived with her uncle, Will McNee, in the Falls, was recently married in Wisconsin.


     Frank Johnson left for Kansas City to continue his medical studies.


     Allman's blacksmith shop was burglarized and a quantity of valuable tools stolen.
