     Apr 4 l974 - Bazaar native John I. McClellan, 77, of Cottonwood Falls dies in the hospital.


     Local businessman Paul W. Stephenson dies in Wichita hospital, other deaths are: Henry Reidel, John Pflughoeft, and Frances Griffin of Cedar Point.


     Apr 18 - Wilbur A. Stout, Bazaar rancher is taken in death of a heart attack.


     May 2 - The tiny Bazaar post office was offically closed after serving the community for 114 years.


     May 16 - The Matfield Green grade school will not open for the fall term.


     Marguerite Buffon is retiring from teaching after thirty years.


     Miss Mabel Harris a longtime area resident passes her 90th milestone.


     May 30 - Fred Hinkle & Emory Oldham were honored for their many years of service to the community as volunteer firemen. Mr. Oldham has been fire chief for 34 years.


     Jun 6 - Angie Green and Thomas Thompson are wed.


     Jun 13 - Retired dairyman, Ralph Klamm is taken in death, also Mrs John (Effie) Patterson and Wm. T. Glanville.


     Nickel coffee still perking at the Billings Drug Store downtown Cottonwood Falls.


     Jun 20 - Wedding vows for Miss Leigh Ann Blankenship and Mark B. Crofoot are read in the St. Andrews Episcopal Church at Emporia.


     Jun 27 - Chase County resident, Sopia Stenzel will observe her 90th milestone on July 7th.


     Jul 4 - Two purpose building, one to serve as a parish hall and two an educational building, just east of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Strong City is the selected site.


     Mr. & Mrs Eugene Eidman have a new baby girl, Julie Jo. She has a two year old brother, D. J.


     Jul 18 - Wedding: Janet Elizabeth Schoap and Lee Ayers, Barbara Johnson and Dan Godfrey.


     Jul 25 - Crops, gardens, lawns wilt in stretch of dry, sizzling weather.


     Aug 1 - Proposed USD-284 school budget nearly one and one-half million.


     Aug 8 - David F. Daub of Strong City and a native of the county is taken in death.


     Planned 50th anniversary event for the Homestead church and dedication of the new church parsonage.


     Aug 15 - Nixon resigns -- Gerald Ford is 38th United States President.


     Longtime Elmdale resident George A. McCallum succumbs and also, Wm. A. Lutt of Cedar Point.


     Aug 22 - General rain cracks drouth.


     Aug 29 - Proposed courthouse landscaping plan to be presented and explained.


     USD-284 announces its policy for free meals.


     Sep 5 - Dudley Doolittle announces he will reopen the Uptown Theatre in Strong City for weekend showings, Saturday & Sunday nights.


     Sep 12 - Progress is going forward on the Chase County Middle School in Strong City.
