Apr 21 1977 - Mrs Vera McCabe Waddell, 60, who was a native of the Bazaar community and a resident of Cottonwood Falls is taken in death.
May 5 - Longtime Matfield Green resident, Leo (Turk) Johnson dies following a lengthy illness.
May 12 - John W. Studer, 52, of Cottonwood Falls, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack. He was a veteran of WWII.
May 26 - A fire completely destroys the two-story home in the Homestead vicinity belonging to Rodney Stahl. It was unoccupied at the time.
Jun 2 - Deaths: Gertie E. Jeffrey, Charles W. Mock, and Mrs Paul Stubenhofer.
Jun 9 - Rainfall far above normal.
Jun 23 - Donna Cox Brown, 48, of Cottonwood Falls dies after a long illness.
James McLinden a lifetime resident of Cedar Point also passes away.
Mr. & Mrs Gene Eidman are the parents of a son, Clinton Gregory.
Jul 7 - Kay Olson, R. N. was named nurse for the Chase County Health Dept.
Howard and June Craney observe their 40th. wedding anniversary.
Jul 14 - Wheat harvest is something of a dud.
Mr. & Mrs John Haglund of Strong City have a new son, Matthew John.
Jul 21 - County commissioners let contracts for 8 bridges in the bridge replacement program.
The memorial addition to the Homestead Church will be dedicated soon.
Aug 4 - Deaths: Miss Bess Underwood and Mrs C. A. Matti.
Aug 18 - Deaths: Karl W. Stubenhofer & Mrs Chester Towle.
Sep 1 - Leslie Cooper resigned as the courthouse custodian, after 13 years of service.
Sep 8 - Enrollment takes a drop of 27 students in USD-284. The total count was 659 students enrolled.
Sep 29 - Anna Lee Meyers is the new custodian at the courthouse.
Tallgrass Prairie Park legislation resurfaces.
Ten children here for the event of honoring Lee Blount’s 88th birthday.
Oct 20 - Saffordville Church 75th. anniversary event is slated.
Nov 3 - Start sidewalk project in downtown Strong City.
The Chase County courthouse will appear on the cover of the Kansas Construction Resources magazine next April.
Nov 10 - Storm windows are being installed at the courthouse by John Haglund Construction. Also a new glass door on the north entrance.
Nov 17 - Debbie Glanville is selected as Chase County Pork Queen.
Mrs Ora Duke passes away and Mrs Harry Hays.
Mr. & Mrs Billy Burton, Matfield Green are the parents of a daughter, Amy Lou.
Dec 8 - Mr. & Mrs Wm. Selves will hail their 60th wedding anniversary.
Dec 15 - Mr. & Mrs Harry Hager will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in Colorado where they now live.
