     Dec 15 1977 - Deaths: Dale Trayer, John Mason & Mrs Fred Swift.


     Dec 22 - Retired rural mail carrier Irving Myers, 82, of Cottonwood Falls passes away. He was a veteran of WWI and WWII and attained the rank of Major in the U. S. Army. He was a member of the Kansas National Guard from 1927 to 1941. Mr. Myers was born in the Thurman vicinity of Chase County.


     Dec 29 - Graveside rites are held for Dickie Bell.


     Jan 12 1978 - Jess Cahoone will undergo exploratory surgery at the KU Medical Center.


     Jan 19 78 - Pronghorn antelope were released in Chase County by the State Forestry, Fish & Game Commission.


     Feb 2 1978 - Young mother, Mrs Thomas (Rose) Burton, 31, of Matfield Green is taken in death.


     Feb 9 - Longtime area resident George E. Sager, 86, of Cottonwood Falls passes away.


     Feb 16 - The Keith Miller home and contents are destroyed by fire.


     Major snowstorm hits Chase Co. area.


     3—2- Two Cottonwood Falls business buildings were destroyed and their interiors gutted in the north block on the west side of Broadway.


     Mar 9 - February was frigid, snowcovered on for 46 days.


     W. R. "Pat" Mushrush retires from active duty at the Exchange National Bank in Cottonwood Falls.


     John Bledsoe is named fire chief of the Cottonwood Falls Volunteer Fire Dept.


     Apr 6 - Loss set at $1,000 in the Billings Drug Store burglary. The store is owned by John Reed.


     Lifetime resident & school teacher Bessie Mercer Spain passes away.


     Apr 13 - Held dedication for Matfield Green Community Church bell tower.


     Apr 20 - The Cottonwood Falls Chamber to discuss low cost housing for Cottonwood Falls.


     May 18 - Strong City Council prepare for sewer, street improvements.


     May 25 - A new sign was erected at the front entrance of the Chase County Historical Society's building.


     Jun 1 - A fire in the Chapman apartments at the corner of Oak & Union in Cottonwood Falls claimed the life of Robert (Bud) Lawless.


     John Rufener retires after 19 years as the custodian at the Cottonwood Falls Grade School.


     Jun 8 - Mrs Jack (Hallie) Davis, 84, of Cottonwood Falls is taken in death.


     Interstate Brands Corporation announces the appointment of Stephen A. Gibb as office manager of the Dolly Madison plant at Emporia. He is the son of Mr. & Mrs Harold E. Gibb of Elmdale.


     Jul 6 - Retail merchants prepare for Cottonwood Falls Day to be held July 15th.


     Lifetime county resident Ferd. H. Kaltenbacher, a retired farmer of the Saffordville community passes away, and County pioneer, Ernest E. Sayre.
