     Jul 13 1978 - Mr. & Mrs Richard Vandegrift, Cottonwood Falls have a new daughter, Casey Renee. She has a brother, Mitchell, 2 years old.


     Jul 20 - Florist here for many years, Mrs Karl P. Anderson dies.


     Aug 24 - Mrs Clarence (Bessie) McCracken dies.


     Sep 7 - Keith & Nancy Huth have purchased the Chase County Lumber, Inc.


     Commissioners order old Simmons bridge west of Strong City closed.


     Virgil W. Kinsey, a rancher for sixty years east of Matfield Green passes away.


     Sep 14 - Cattle leaving Flint Hills early this year due to drouth.


     Oct 5 - Longtime local businessman Paul Trayer passes away.


     Oct 12 - Walter W. Phillips, janitor-messenger, for the Santa Fe Railroad at Emporia has retired.


     June Ann Bechelmayr and Roy Franklin Morgan are wed at the home of the bride.


     Mr. & Mrs Donald R. Yoakem are the parents of a son, Lance Ray, he has an older sister, Elexia.


     Oct 19 - Held dedication for the Matfield Green Community Church Bell Tower.


     Oct 26 - Mr. & Mrs Ralph J. Reyer will observe their 60th wedding anniversary.


     Nov 9 - Deaths: Jim Bell, Jr., Roy E. Lee, Mrs Bruce Swift, & Wm. J. Brown.


     Dec 14 - Chase County’s new Emergency Medical Services ambulance was brought here by E.M.S. Director Keith E. Davis.


     Lifetime Strong citian, Dorothy Hubert Spain has passed away.


     Jan 4 1979 - Longtime local resident Lee Blount passes away. A veteran of WWI, he had been a wagoneer in Company M. 129th Infantry of the 35th Division.


     Jan 11 - The First Baptist Church will be building an addition on east of the present facility. It will be a 12’ x 60’ steel structure.


     Uptown Theatre — Now showing “Grease” is the word. John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John star in it.


     Jan 18 - Blizzard hits area with bitter wind, more snow, closing highways, clogging streets for a period.


     Pioneer resident, Mrs Thomas (Sarah) Pinkston, 95, of Cottonwood Falls is taken in death.


     Jan 25 - Mr. & Mrs Larry Meyers, Cottonwood Falls, have a new daughter, Nichole Dawn.


     Mr. & Mrs Edward T. (Tinkum) Baker of Matfield Green will celebrate their 50 years together.


     Feb 1 - 98 more pronghorn antelope are released in Chase County.


     Retired druggist and banker, Hugh K. Campbell, 95, of Cottonwood Falls passes away.


     Feb 15 - Deaths: Glenn R. Mott, Miss Alice Steele, Aaron Diehl and Howard R. Sidener.


     Feb 22 - Chase County Middle School girls basketball team for the second straight year are Flint Hills League and Tournament champions. Jerry Pittman is their coach.
