     Apr 24 1980 - James H. (Jim) Metzger, of Topeka is the new owner of the Chase County Leader.


     May 1 - Retired local postmaster R. D. (Rex) Bennett, 92, of Cottonwood Falls passes away. Also James Edwin Jackson.


     The IGA store closed, to reopen as C-F Foods.


     May 15 - Co-valedictorians of Chase County High School are Karen Blount and Lori Buffington.


     May 22 - Lifetime resident Grace Norton Beedle is taken in death.


     Jun 5 - Wanda Cooper, of the Saffordville vicinity and Cherryl Browning route 1 Emporia are contestants for Miss Rodeo Kansas.


     Services set for lifetime resident of Strong City, Gertrude Rettiger.


     Jun 19 - Established a mill levy for 10 years for maintenance and repair of the courthouse building.


     Major Charles Rayl assumes command of the 920th Medical Detachment, Kansas Army National Guard.


     JUl 3 - Area sizzles under blazing heat.


     Marriage license in Kansas takes a raise, from $10 to $17.


     Jul 10 - The Chase County Historical Society will have a structure built at the rear of the building. John Haglund’s bid was accepted to do the work.


     Jul 17 - A daughter is born to Mr. & Mrs Robert C. DeWitt, she has been named Jennifer Lynn.


     Readings soar over century mark in July.


     Jul 24 - Camp Wood YMCA to take over operation of Camp Aug. 1st.


     The third annual Cottonwood Falls Days were held.


     Aug 7 - Census shows another decrease in population for Chase County.


     Longtime county resident Wm. J. Pherigo passes away.


     Aug 14 - Intangible tax ballots impounded by court.


     90th birthday party for Margaret Barr.


     Aug 21 - Clements native Howard M. Duehn is taken in death.


     South Fork watershed to build fifth detention dam.


     Mr. & Mrs Sam Robinson, Strong City will hail their 50th wedding anniversary


     Sep 4 - Area finally receives cooling rains and moderating temperatures.


     Sep 11 - Glen F. Burton, a retired farmer and employee of the Chase County Highway Dept. died at his home. Also Mrs Alfred (Katherine) Schroer and Mrs May Campbell.


     Sep 25 - The old Crocker chuck wagon is getting a new home behind the site of the Chase County Historical Society. The wagon is a gift from Mason Crocker and Wayne Rogler.


     Mr. & Mrs 0. W. “Doc” Parks will celebrate their golden anniversary.


     Oct 2 - Mary Steadman resigned as head cook at the Chase County High School. She has been cooking for students at the school since 1964.


     Oct 16 - The new Senior Center in Cottonwood Falls will begin serving meals to Senior Citizens.


     Oct 23 - The St Anthony’s church at Strong City is celebrating it’s centennial this month.
