     Nov 17 1983 - The 45th wedding anniversary of Mr. & Mrs Lloyd Thompson will be observed.


     Feb 1 - Jon and Pam Weiss buy the Laughridge Insurance Agency in Cottonwood Falls. Whitt Laughridge will continue in the Real Estate business.


     Dec 8 - Mark & Barbara Davis of Cottonwood Falls are the parents of their first child, a daughter, Angela Dianne.


     Deaths: Edgar Max Zickefoose and Lee J. Gurney.


     Dec 15 - Meyer & Moore by the Peoples Exchange Bank of Elmdale.


     The voices of Chase County High School, will appear on “Christmas in Kansas”, shown on WIBW-TV.


     Jan 5 1984 - Miss Lynette Blackmore, will graduate from the Wichita Practical Nursing School.


     Jan 19 - A State quilt has been made by local senior citizens.


     The Chase County Historical Society Museum now has a permnent display of old photos of Chase County points of interest.


     Jan 19 1984 - Mr. & Mrs Everett Swift of Matfield Green have their first child, a son, Jerad Kent.


     Mr. & Mrs Wayne Park, rural Elmdale, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, with their children & families.


     Feb 2 - Al & Frances Staedtler of Saffordville, are the 1983 winners of the Chase County Bankers award.


     Feb 23 - The Bazaar church will celebrate its 75th anniversary.


     Norma Redick, Restorative Services Aide, was chosen as the February Employee of the month at the Chase County Nursing Center.


     Mar 8 - Deaths: Harold Passmore, Ernest Meierhoff, John J. Harbison, & Eva Mae Gillaspie Shaft.


     Mar 15 - Clara Jo Talkington to be postmaster at Matfield Green. Talkington succeeds James G. Beedle who retired.


     Charles Rettiger was crowned the County Spelling Champion. Charles is a 6th grader at Strong City.


     Mar 15 - Mr. & Mrs Walter Phillips of Cottonwood Falls will observe their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner.


     Mar 22 - One of the worst ice storms many have seen in years happened over the weekend.


     Rich Potter says it’s Pee Wee baseball sign-up time again.


     Apr 5 - Deaths: John C. Pretzer, James S. McKenzie, Merton Whitcomb & Mrs Jacob Wambsganss.


     Pasture land brings $325 per acre at public auction.


     Apr 19 - Deteriorating of the of the piers, cracks in the floor and breaking of the bannisters are proof of decaying at the old river bridge in Cottonwood Falls. The county commissioners agreed to close the bridge off to the public and any vehicles.


     Apr 26 - Chase County to have a health fair.


     Observance of the Cottonwood Falls United Methodist church 125th anniversary year will be held soon.
