     1984


     Apr 26 1984 - The Chase County High School boys track team brought home a first place title at the Council Grove meet.


     May 3 - Mabel Harris to observe her 100th birthday. Mabel has lived more than 70 years on the family farm on Buck Creek. She graduated from high school at Strong City in 1902.


     May 24 - Chase County High School graduates 30 seniors.


     County bridge inspections are completed.


     Jun 14 - The Fourth of July will be celebrated in Elmdale this year with a day of old fashioned activities.


     Glenn Eidman of the Saffordville area caught a 62 pound flathead on a set line.


     Jun 28 - Design faults found in six county bridges.


     Jul 5 - Charlie Swift of Matfield Green, has opened a new automotive repair shop at the east side of Cottonwood Falls on Walnut street.


     Jul 12 - More canadian geese are released in Chase County over 100 in all. They were released at four Chase County ponds.


     The restored stained glass windows are rededicated at Elmdale.


     Jul 26 - Petting zoo to be held at the Chase County Fair.


     A large number of participants and spectators made the first Cottonwood Day River Race an enjoyable experience for all. John Haglund and Joe Bell, captured first place in the canoe race.


     Aug 2 - Lisa Lynne Filinger and Steven Jay Eidman were married in the First Presbyterian church in Cottonwood Falls.


     Aug 9 - Neighborhood watch program new to Chase County.


     Aug 16 - Renovation work on courthouse interior starts.


     Aug 30 - Connie & Howard Roberts of Strong City have a surprise 40th wedding anniversary due to their five children, Terri , Jerri, Carole, Robin & Jill.


     Sep 6 - The big top is coming to town and will be set up at Swope Park.


     Sep 20 - Kay Olson, County Health Nurse presented her resignation, due to her family moving to Flordia.


     Oct 11 - Health Chase Clinic 84 a “roaring sucess.” An estimated 450-500 attended.


     Oct 18 - The Grace Lutheran church at Strong City celebrates 100 years.


     Happy 40th wedding anniversary to Glendon and Eula Barrett of rural Cottonwood Falls.


     10-25- Ardith Jacobs Ramsey assumes job as Chase County Health Nurse.


     Ida Vinson is honored as “Woman of the year.”


     Nov 22 - Pearl Childs, is resident of the month at the Chase County Nursing Center. Pearl was born in Kansas and married Chauncy Childs and they were the parents of three daughters and one son.


     Dec 6 - The Pioneer Supper Club located 3 miles east of Strong City will be opening around Christmas.


     Dec 13 - The Chase County Middle School boys basketball team remains undefeated.
