     1984 - 1985


     Dec 20 1984 - Current Kansas law requires any person maintaining a family day care home shall register such home with the Secretary of Health and Environment. In lieu of registration a person may seek licensure.


     L. E. and Naomi Croy are marking 60 years together, after eloping on Christmas Eve.


     Jan 10 1985 - Various types of weather seen in December.


     Volunteers have been working on the new Strong City Fire Station on the Northeast side of the city park.


     Jan 17 - Roberta Allen and Juanita Gibb, were presented 24-year pins for their service as Register of Deeds & County Treasurer. Darwin Reyer was presented a plaque in recongnition of his 20 years of service as County Clerk.


     Deaths: Mrs Albert Odle & John Hollenback.


     A sketch of the proposed plan in landscaping at the Chase County Courthouse. Removal of the old Cedar Trees in front is part of the plan.


     Mr. & Mrs Harold Buffon, rural Saffordville, will observe their 50th wedding anniversary.


     Jan 31 - Milt & Lora Hettenbach of Cedar Point are the winners of the 1984 Bankers award for Chase Co.


     A round ice box has just been donated to the Chase County Historical Society Museum by Blanche Deering.


     Feb 7 - Mr. & Mrs Amos Swigert Saffordville, are the parents of a baby boy named Shane.


     Feb 14 - G. W. and Beth Ann Yeager, Elmdale, are the parents of a baby girl, named Elizabeth Anne.


     Feb 21 - David Croy has been elected as fire chief of the Cottonwood Falls Fire Dept, Tom Archer, Assistant Chief, and Jon Weiss , Secretary.


     Feb 28 - Discussion on a new water plant was held at the Cottonwood Falls Council meeting.


     Mar 7 - Grand opening of the Pioneer Supper Club.


     Mar 14 - Dry well on the Elmo & Juanita Starkey land.


     Mar 21 - Construction has begun on the new Cottonwood Falls water treatment plant.


     Camp Wood enters its 70th year of serving campers of Kansas.


     Sam Robinson of Strong City is named "Citizen of the month."


     Mar 28 - Diamond Creek watershed starts its’ first construction.


     Deaths: Olive Reyer and Forester Swift.


     Apr 4 - Election results of City of Strong- Mayor, Lawrence Bayer, Council-members, Marvin Adcock, Ken Clark, Gerald Ingalls, John Haglund and Harold Parks, City of Cottonwood Falls: mayor, Michael Cahoone, Council members, Ginger Dody, and James Kelly.


     Apr 11 - Deaths: Charles Keener and Webster G. Olson.


     Apr 18 - A large 3-story country home of Kenneth &and Marge Diehl, rural Cottonwood Falls was totally destroyed by fire of unknown origin. The home was originally built in 1910 by the McCandless family.


     May 9 - The Bluestem Elevator in Cottonwood Falls will be sold at a public auction - stated owner Cleta Scott.
