     1985


     May 9 1985 - Aline Kieferle celebrates her 98th birthday at the Chase County Nursing Home.


     May 18 - Deaths: Mrs Frank Judd, Mary Isabelle Myers, and Mrs Merle Merritt.


     May 23 - The Chase County Bulldogs basketball team comes home with 4th in the State.


     May 30 - Four teachers in USD-284 retiring, Mrs Irene Soyez, Mrs Lela Towle, Mrs Marice Copt, and Mrs Betty Fetrow.


     Wm and Dorothy Yeager, Strong City, have a fine new baby girl. Their first child, named Stephanie Jay.


     Mr. & Mrs Alfred L. Bullock and Mr. & Mrs Lester Pierce, both of Strong City will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary’s.


     Jun 6 - The landscape project at the courthouse to be put on hold.


     Plans in the making for Elmdale fourth celebration.


     Emmett Roberts is citizen of the month.


     Jun 27 - Deaths: James G. Beedle, Mrs Fred J. Austin, and Dorman "Brownie" Brown.


     The Matfield Green Community church will be observing its Centennial in July.


     Jul 4 - Camp Wood is having a record setting year.


     Steve & Cathy Schlup, Elmdale and June & Joe Bell, rural Cottonwood Falls, both have new baby boys.


     Citizen of the month is Rich Potter, Coach of little league teams for 20 years.


     Jul 18 - Several thousand dollars of tools are stolen from the county shop.


     Aug 1 - The Elmdale Christian church, founded in 1885, will hold their 100th anniversary celebration.


     Aug 8 - Deaths: Victor Thomas Kirk and Arthur (Pete) Deering.


     Aug 15 - Reappraisal to be a costly expense for the county.


     Deaths: Rose Belle Pyke, George Deering, Charles Sampson, & Wilma Bessie Augustine.


     Sep 19 - Commissioners not pleased with the courthouse renovation work. The roof is still leaking, plus other problems.


     Deaths: Helen "Brownie" Pinkston, and Janice Sue DeWitt.


     Oct 3 - Inadequate soldering may be cause for the courthouse roof to leak.


     The new school running track was in the process of the grading work being finalized.


     Oct 10 - Chase County "Takes care of its own” during flooding.


     Deaths: Keith Hansen Stout, Charles (Chalky) Selves, and Marion Dean Keyes.


     Oct 31 - Seven local people are arrested on drug-related charges.


     Nov 14 - Crossarms at Elmdale and Saffordville a good possibility.


     The Chase County Volley ball team celebrates a first place finish in their sub-state tournament.


     Nov 21 - The City of Strong continues their progress on road repair after flood.
