     1985 - 1886


     Nov 21 1985 - The Elmdale community was saddened by the death of Doug Gibb. Doug’s pleasant, obliging personality has been part of the Elmdale post office for many years.


     Nov 28 - Work has been progressing over the past summer and fall on the Fox Creek School house north of Strong City.


     Dec 5 - The number of small farms (those under 50 acres) are on the rise.


     Dec 12 - Thirteen year old, Bambi, the infamous deer was put to sleep, as Bambi had been in deteriorating condition for several months.


     Dec 19 - The YWCA will sponsor the Christmas Ball to be held in the high school commons area.


     Dick & Ruea Thurston will observe their 40th wedding anniversary.


     Dec 26 - Walter “Windy’ Pinkstons, passed away suddenly in his pasture at Bazaar. Windy, as he was known to his many friends, was a well known rancher in the Chase Co. area for many years.


     Jan 2 - 1886 - Coral Roberts is retiring from the Strong City post office as postal clerk, after 27 years of service.


     Jan 16 - Howard & Peggy Wood of Cedar Point received the 1985 Bankers award.


     Feb 13 - Deaths: Kipling M. Wells, Donald (Dean) Lancaster, Arnold William Dicke, & Caroline Thurston Fox.


     Feb 20 - Wendi Marie Pherigo and Charles Gilbert Jones are wed at the Cottonwood Falls United Methodist church.


     Feb 27 - Chase County wrestlers win regional wrestling tournament.


     Mar 13 - Steve Griffin of Cedar Point was hired as the new county's Noxious Weed Director.


     Mar 27 - Workers completed the pouring of the top one-inch asphalt on the new running track for Chase County USD-284.


     Apr 10 - The Bazaar Post office Museum will hold open house soon.


     May 8 - Pizza Hut is coming to Strong City. Location will be on the South side of US 50.


     Missy Miller was the youth volunteer with most hours of service at the Chase County Nursing Center, in the last year.


     Doris Foster is to retire after 42 years of service with the Chase County Gas Service Co.


     May 15 - Morris Eidman is hired as math teacher at the high school.


     Deaths: Claire Ward, Hazel C. Park, and Buford Bastin.


     Mr. & Mrs Fred Riggs to observe their 50th wedding anniversary.


     May 22 - Dr. Leo McKee is retiring after 40 years of practice. Dr & Mrs McKee will be moving to California.


     Middle school boys and girls win 6th consecutive league titles in track.


     Farm equipment auction - property of David B. Mercer, Inc. by Griffin Auction.


     May 29 - Art exhibition over rodeo weekend to feature Marjorie Roberts Hart’s work.


     Jun 5 - Bright, new welcome banners will greet rodeo paraders in Strong City this weekend.


     Mr. & Mrs Thomas E. McCabe to celebrate 50th wedding anniversary.
