     Jun 12 1986 - "The best picture of the year” The Color Purple showing at the Uptown theatre at Strong City.


     Jun 26 - A new church will soon be built, with the name chosen as Flinthills Friends Church.


     Jul 3 - The new Chase County Senior Citizens bus has arrived.


     Jul 24 - Stephen Gibb, Cottonwood Falls has been named cake division controller for Interstate Brand Corp. He will begin his job in Kansas City, Mo. soon. Steve has been working in Emporia for 17 years with Dolly Madison Cake Co.


     Jul 31 - Dr. Jimmie Browning leaving for practice in Clay Center.


     Aug 7 - Wayne S. Childs has been appointed postmaster at Elmdale.


     Mr and Mrs Ted Scott will observe their 50th wedding anniversary.


     Aug 14 - Deaths: Jesse Mae Hinkle, Roger S McCallum, Mrs Ruth Banks, Franklin Schickel and Spencer Williams.


     Aug 24 - Homestead Friends church to celebrate 100 years. Enrollment down slightly in district schools.


     Sep 4 - Mr and Mrs J. Richard llff will observe their golden wedding anniversary.


     Mr. & Mrs Iliff were the publishers of the Chase County News and later the Chase County Leader-News for many years, retiring in 1980.


     Sep 11 - Medical Arts Clinic to provide medical care to Chase County.


     Deaths: Lloyd “Harve” Cox, and Elmer Cooper.


     Sep 18 - Clyde and Audrey Powell to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary and Mr and Mrs Jack Glanville, Sr their 57th.


     Sep 25 - Molly Miser wins arabian gelding “M. J. Sandpiper” in giveaway.


     Oct 2 - Some areas of Chase County received over 10 inches of rain.


     Bullpups win nail-biter against Peabody.


     Deaths: Hazel Slabaugh, Alpha Easter, Robert M. Waddell, Chester C. Perkins, and Rachael Irene Stackley.


     Oct 9 - The Presbyterian church to celebrate 100 years.


     Oct 16 - The Cottonwood Falls Mayor and Council are preparing for an open house at the new Cottonwood Falls Water treatment plant.


     Oct 30 - Steve Rollins is certified a Water Supply System Class II operator.


     Nov 6 - Deaths: Helen M. Ballew, Mary A. Gamer Bechelmayr, and Avah Lucille DeWitt.


     Nov 13 - Chase County voters vote “no” to liquor by the drink.


     Road work on 8.2 miles of U. S. 50 east of Strong City completed. Cost was near 3 million.


     Nov 20 - A new business is being built in Strong City in the way of a 3 bay car wash. Located on K-177 in south end of Strong City.


     Nov 27 - Judy Mackey has top painting at Royal Art Auction.


     Grand old landmark hits century mark, the Stone Arch Bridge at Clements.


     Dec 4 - Board told of many “useless bridges”. Commissioners told to stop plans for Clements bridge.


     Dec 18 - The Knute Rockne plane crash artifacts are needed to make a display at the Chase County Historical Museum.


     Deaths: Edward “Nip" Whitney & Fern Erma Rosebraugh.
