     Jan 1 1987 - Dorleen English to retire after 37 years of service in banking.


     Jan 22 - The Gene Eidman family was awarded the 1986 Bankers award.


     Mr & Mrs Charles G. Jones rural Cottonwood Falls have a new son named, Gilbert Charles.


     Mabel Bower to be recognized for her conservation work and Ivan Wilson to receive Wildlife Habitat Award.


     Feb 5 - Deaths: Bonabeth Brickell, Sam Robinson, & Belle F. Merritt.


     Feb 12 - A permanent awning is being constructed on the Senior Center store front this week by John Haglund and Joe Bell.


     Jess Cahoone who fought a determined battle with cancer since high school has passed away, after nine long years. His parents are Sidney & Wanda (Jim) Cahoone.


     Mar 5 - Social Security numbers are required for school age children.


     The 50th Anniversary of Fred & Ola Pracht will be observed. They have lived on the same farm all their married life.


     Mar 19 - John Rettiger, 6’ 9” senior from Chase County High School, was named most valuable player in the Cottonwood Valley Boys League for the 1986-87 season.


     Carnations 59 cents each - Doug’s Flowers & Gifts.


     Mar 26 - Commissioners hear reports on waterproofing, dissatisfaction with renovation work on courthouse.


     Deaths: Bessie Elizabeth Yoakem and Mrs Frances A Magathan.


     Apr 2 - Ron Keisheimer was recently hired to collect data for the Chase County Appraiser’s office in conjunction with the state-wide reappraisal program.


     Apr 16 - The landscape project at the courthouse to get off the ground.


     Apr 23 - The annual Easter Egg Hunt held on the courthouse lawn was a huge success.


     David & Hazel Mercer will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They have lived all their married life on the Mercer ranch homesteaded by Mr. Mercer’s grandfather in 1856.


     Apr 30 - The Flint Hills Rodeo board has announced that the parade will include the Budweiser Clydedales.


     Proposed landfill site located 2 miles west of Strong City. Site “trashed” later.


     Aline Kieferle is honored on her 100th birthday at the Chase County Nursing Center.


     May 14 - A group of volunteer workers from the Twin Cities’ Lions Club worked on painting both the interior & exterior of the Cottonwood Falls swimming pool.


     May 21 - The Toledo area was devasted by a tornado with damage to 14 homes.


     May 28 - The Chase County High School boys baseball team advanced to the State Tournament. Their coach is Jay Talkington.


     The avenue of flags at the entrance to the Bazaar cemetery is due to Frank and Virginia Gaddie who organized the display by posting 8 flags and Charles Armagost added 8 more.
