     Jun 4 1987 - Golden anniversary of the Flint Hills Rodeo coming up.


     Jun 11 - Commission accepting bids for landscaping the courthouse lawn.


     Deaths: Mrs Gilbert Mott & G. R. “Bob’ Byrd.


     Jun 25 - Charles T. Ireland is retiring as superintendent of USD-284. Three of "courthouse” family to retire, Juanita Gibb, Roberta Allen, and Betty Hastings.


     Jul 9 - Full schedule planned for the 10th annual Cottonwood Falls Day.


     Jul 16 - Emmett Roberts of Strong City is featured on the front page of the July-August issue of “Keynotes.”


     Jul 23 - Local group would like to save the Cedar trees on the courthouse lawn.


     Jul 30 - Temporary restraining order saves cedar trees for awhile.


     Howard Wood is retiring as ASCS Director.


     Deaths: Etta May 5chwilling and Gladys Irene Martin.


     Aug 6 - The Kansas National Guardsmen of the 891st engineers batallion and their heavy equipment arrived in Cottonwood Falls to start repairs on the Cottonwood River dam.


     Aug 13 - Casey’s General store, a convenience type store, will be built on land south of the city shop on K-l77.


     Aug 20 - Cedar trees will remain as group appeals court decision.


     Aug 27 - Members of the 891st Engineer Battalion conducted a lowing of the colors ceremony in front of the Cottonwood Falls Municipal building and former National Guard Armory. The old Armory has not been in use as such for more than 4 years. The men are bunking in the building.


     Joe & Mildred Crawford will observe their 50th wedding anniversary.


     Oct 1 - County buys Health Dept. building at 205 Broadway.


     Oct 8 - Dr. Robert Livonia, D. 0. the new doctor to Chase County is dismissed in Nov.


     6th annual quilt show this weekend.


     Oct 15 - Work was completed on a new shelter house at the Strong City Park. Constructed by Dennis Maddox & Art Holdeman Jr.


     Resolution to close Cedar Point Grade school end of the 1987-88 year.


     Oct 29 - senior Center in need of donations to keep running.


     Nov 12 - Ground work for the new Casey’s General Store in Cottonwood Falls has began.


     Nov 19 - The mill dam located at Cottonwood Falls is completed after repairs were done by members of the Kansas National Guard.


     Dec 3 - Christmas lighting for courthouse delayed due to funds.


     Jan 7 l988 - The Chase County Unified School District No. 284 voted 5-1 to close the Cedar Point Grade School at the end of the 1987-88 school term.


     Jan 28 - Elementary students to be in one school if proposal accepted.


     Feb 4 - Ken and Flo Clark, Strong City, have sold their farm store to Jim & Glenda Fink, rural Cottonwood Falls.


     Feb 18 - Native cut limestone is being used in the supporting post for the name of Ireland Athletic Field just north of Swope Park.
