     1988 - 1989


     Oct 27 1988 - Shawn Potts was named Senior-of-the Month at Chase County High School.


     Nov 3 - Officals of the Kansas University Department of animal sciences & industry have named their newly renovated library for Wayne & Elizabeth Rogler of Matfield Green.


     The Chase County High School volleyball team is on its way to State competition at Hesston.


     Nov 10 - Voter turnout in Chase County was reported at 85%.


     Nov 17 - Chase County High School musical “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” to be presented by the students, two performaces to be held.


     Dec 1 - The Chase County courthouse is all aglow with the Christmas spirit. The Cottonwood Falls Lighting Celebration came to a magnificent finale when the switch was pulled and the courthouse lit up.


     Dec 22 - Tom & Karen Grokett are the parents of a daughter, Sarah Renee.


     Col. T. W. Burton, of Matfield Green, has just completed the course in auctioneering and auctin sales management at a Missouri Auction School.


     Dec 29 - Brown-Bennett-Alexander will no longer carry a license to run a transfer ambulance Type III.


     Jan 5 1989 - New EPA regulation for underground storage tanks.


     Jan 12 - The majestic Z-Bar or Spring Hill Ranch, is very much in the news this past week. The National Audubon Society is asking the residents of the county to consider the 10,000 acre ranch for the creation of a Flint Hill National Monument.


     Jan 12 - Two new county commissioners are sworn into office, Wm. J. Yeager, and Harold K. Wells. Jack Spain & Russell Schwilling are the outgoing commissioners.


     Jan 26 - The Bell Trust has been awarded the 1988 Bankers Award for Chase County. Jane Bell will receive the award for the Bell family.


     Toni Warner a native of Chase County celebrates her 92nd. birthday.


     Feb 2 - Going, Going, gone! The old Bluestem Elevator located on K—l77 in Cottonwood Falls, is being dismantled by the City employees.


     Feb 9 - Doug’s Flowers of Strong City destroyed by fire.


     Feb 16 - Kim Magathan, daughter of Charles Magathan was crowned Chase County High School’s Queen of Courts.


     Feb 23 - Sister cities pass resolution in support of National Monument of the Z-Bar Ranch.


     Mar 9 - Tom Archer is named City Fire Chief of Cottonwood Falls.


     Mar 16 - The Saffordville United Methodist Church will construct a new educational building. This will be done with the help of a grant.


     Mar 23 - County to start rotating checking account.


     Flint Hills Community Church to be dedicated soon.


     Mar 30 - Randy & Teresa Talkington of Matfield Green have a new son, Bradley Ray.


     Mr & Mrs Homer Hancock of Rt. 5 Emporia will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
