     Oct 12 1989 - The Strong City carnival was a big success, with a large crowd attending.

     Oct 19 - Eula & Glendon Barrett were presented the 1989 “Friends of 4-H Award

     Deaths: Mary K. Hudson and Alma Ruby Baldwin.

     Oct 26 - Inspector of the courthouse christmas lights said they should be removed.

     Nov 2 - Chase County Commissioners say courthouse christmas lights will shine afterall.

     County property valuation falls $2 million.

     Nov 9 - Cottonwood Falls will have a fully operational veterinary clinic and kennel facility for domestic and farm animals next march; local veterinarian Randy McCallum has announced.

     Nov 16 - Deaths: Anna Lambert & Frances Pretzer.

     The Elmdale streets get a facelift.

     A Chase County Leader-News subscribution is only $12.00 for 52 issues inside Chase County.

     Nov 22 - Marie Isbell of Strong City celebrated her 90th birthday.

     Dec 14 - Ron & Cindy Kelsheimer of Cottonwood Falls have a new son, Derek Wayne.

     The Chase County school buses are to be radio equipped.

     Dec 21 - Cedar Point’s Heckendorn Co. sold to Tolle Manufacturing.

     The Elmdale Trading Post was levelled to the ground by a night blaze.

     Dec 28 - Deaths: Ted Starkey, Elmer Slabaugh, and Mabel Danford.

     The Chase County Historical Society is in the process of compiling a cemetery census. This is being done by volunteer help.

     Also the old jail is being refitted to look as it did in the 1870’s.

     Jan 4 1990 - Deaths: Joe Gamer, Rozella E. Byram, Ted Starkey, and Lucy Faye Johnson.

     Minnie Beth (Dawson) Park retires from the ASCS office in Cottonwood Falls after 37 continuous years.

     Feb 22 - Chase County is rated as critically medically underserved.

     Mr. & Mrs Frank Frey celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary.

     Mar 1 - Cottonwood Falls Chamber backs increasing funding for courthouse tours.

     Charles J. Rettiger, son of David & Donna Rettiger of Strong City has been nominated as a candidate for the U. S. Air Force Academy by U. S. Senator Bob Dole.

     Chase Countys “Main Street" program kicks off to a start.

     Mar 22 - 200 attend annual Kansas Grassroots meeting.

     Apr 5 - Army eyes Chase County for Ft. Riley expansion.

     Cottonwood Falls and Strong City oppose Ft. Riley expansion and support the creation of a Flint Hills Monument in Chase County.

     Apr 26 - The Chase Co. Leader-News was named State’s best weekly. Mike O’Neal is the owner-Editor.
