     Jan 7 1993 - Sleet, ice storm snarls New Year’s start.

     County’s new jail cells “to small” to house two inmates say State Dept. of Corrections.

     The second snow, sleet & ice storm hits the county again.

     Jan 21 - Three months and an election later, Chase County’s Sheriff’s Dept. is getting back its dispatchers.

     Alfred C. Staedtler, 72 of Saffordville has died. Mr. Staedtler helped engineer the Kansas Turnpike. He married Frances Crook in 1947.

     Feb 11 - Financial picture grim as county dips into the general fund to pay jail bond.

     Ray C. Johnson, 90, pioneer Chase County educator has passed away.

     Feb 25 - The Chase County Bulldogs basketball team aim for school’s first unbeaten season.

     Mar 4 - A perfect season for the Chase County High School Bulldogs after beating Marion 68-43. 22 down, 3 to go! The Chase Co. High School Bulldogs reach for Kansas basketball’s brass ring.

     Mar 18 - School building plan would cost $4.4 million.

     Deaths: George D. Bechelmayr and Robert “Bob” Simmons.

     Kinsley knocks Bulldogs from unbeaten season & State Tourney.

     Apr 8 - A Duckwall’s Variety store may be coming to Cottonwood Falls.

     The Chase County Leader-News wins press honors.

     New Clements bridge, bypassing the old stone arch bridge, is now open.

     Apr 15 - “River to the Railroad” project gets $500,000 Federal grant will renovate old Cottonwood river bridge, create river park and build bike path between twin cities.

     A voice for agriculture Wayne Rogler is stilled. Mr. Rogler passed away last week.

     Apr 29 - Cash strapped county unsure where it will get grant matching funds for “River To Railroad Project.”

     May 6 - Commissioners freeze all but essential county expenditures.

     May 10 - Raging Cottonwood river leaves the county cut-off in biggest flood since 1951.

     May 13 - Red Cross sets up disaster assistance, County Health Dep. offers shots, and water warning after flood starts to recede.

     May 20 - Unofficial damage estimates flood damages near $4 million dollars.

     Iladean and Howard Stubenhofer observed their 50th wedding anniversary.

     Through the combined effors of Bazaar Community members and neighbors, the rock laying of the Bazaar sign in the Armagost pasture on Roniger Hill was completed.

     May 27 - County Government will run out of money by October.

     Jun 17 - Half of Matfield Green’s residents turn out in first round to save threatened post office.

     Jun 24 - Chase County projected to lose 40% of residents by 2030.
