     Jul 8 1993 - Cottonwood Falls gives final go ahead to river park.

     Jul 15 - Mr. & Mrs Tom Grokett, of Cottonwood Falls have a new daughter, Robin Lee.

     Jul 29 - Chase County’s “First Lady”, Ida Way Vinson celebrates her 100th birthday. The courthouse bell will be rung 100 times.

     Aug 5 - Shorty Bastin is the new Mayor for the City of Elmdale. He succeeds John Schierling, who resigned.

     Former Cedar Point Mayor, Marion “Ted” Yoakem, 87, has passed away.

     Aug 26 - A new chip & seal surface has been finished on the Osage Hill road. It received considerable damage from last winter’s severe weather and the May & July floods.

     Sep 2 - County expected to unveil bare bones 1994 budget.

     Jay Talkington is the new head coach of the Chase County High football team. His team calls him “Mr. T.”

     Sep 16 - Chase County declared eligible for Federal flood disaster assistance.

     Sep 23 - Chase County gets first flood relief funds, nearly $100,000 for road & bridge repairs.

     Sep 30 - Benign neglect is killing our downtowns in Chase County.

     Oct 7 - After 102 years, Elmdale Bank is closing its doors in January.

     Oct 14 - Chase County seniors score below State & National average on ACT test.

     Oct 21 - Gerald Ingalls resigns as undersheriff.

     Nov 4 - Voters give school bond of $4.6 million as a defeated proposal.

     Cowgirl hall of fame eyes Strong City as potential new home.

     Nov 11 - Joe Bell is the new chief jailer and begins cost cutting at county jail.

     County wants to “give” or sell the old river bridge to Cottonwood Falls for $1, no takers.

     Dec 2 - The Haws purchase Jim Bell & Son Store. This is the Falls oldest retail store founded in 1927.

     Dec 9 - Donations are needed to finish lighting McWilliams Creek. 1,000 more lights are needed.

     Dec 23 - County will require all jobs to be advertised.

     Dec 30 - The EMT at just $1.10 an hour may be the most important county employees we’ll ever know.

     Jan 27 1994 - Chase County Commissioner, Paul Jones urges another try to hike local sales tax only months after voters rejected three separate tax increases.

     Chase County Nursing Center changing name. It will be known as Chase County Health & Rehabilitation Center.

     Feb 3 - Duckwalls bid openings soon for renovating City building for retail space.

     Feb 10 - Another Bazaar landmark the former hotel began being razed piece by piece. It’s last occupant was Maude Trickle in the early 1940’s.

     Matfield Green post office will close after a long battle to keep it open.
